ALL SYSTEMS GO: David Foster & Friends Kicks Off 10-City US-Canada Tour

CHICAGO – The much-awaited 10-city tour of David Foster & Friends began with a big bang at the packed Rosemont Theater in Chicagoland Wednesday, Oct. 21.

But before that, David Foster himself opened the doors of the theater to the Asian Journal to watch the rehearsals the day before.

To say that the entire group’s schedule was hectic would be an absolute understatement.

David and Charice began their day by trooping to the WGN studios, where one of Chicago’s more famous morning shows is taped. Then it was off to rehearsals.

Skyline College’s Kababayan Program hails the Filipino spirit with the performances of Barangay Dance Company and Kababayan Dance Troupe.

ONE of the ways to be one in learning a culture is through dance and music. The melodies and movements bring a person to a heightened learning experience, making it easier to connect with his roots.

Such is the Kababayan Program at Skyline College goal—0to be able to reach out to not only their students, but to the community. A transfer and community support program at Skyline College, Kababayan focuses on the Filipino and Filipino-American student experience, which includes cultural experiences and community service. The program also aims to create a feeling of campus affiliation for students and motivate students to learn about their culture.

PAMELA Bianca Manalo always looked up to her older sister.

From the moment she saw her sister, Katherine Anne Manalo, being crowned Ms. Philippines in 2002, then 15-year-old Pamela Bianca knew she wanted to follow her older sister’s footsteps.

"I said to myself, ‘someday I’m going to be a beauty queen as well,’" recalls Pamela Manalo to the Asian Journal.

Dreaming big paid off for the younger Manalo seven years later.

Lea Salonga helps raise funds for flood victims

NEW YORK—What was initially planned as a small, intimate show ballooned into something big and great, as Lea Salonga performed before a crowd of about 200 people at the Kalayaan Hall of the Philippine Center.

Through ticket sales alone, the event generated more than a million pesos in funds that would be donated to the flood victims in the Philippines. Donations to Ayala Foundation USA surged from October 2 to 12 because of the awareness the event brought and generated an additional $77,800 (roughly P3.7 million pesos).
