Few things can beat a really good laugh. Research has shown many health benefits of laughter, ranging from strengthening the immune system to reducing food cravings to increasing one’s threshold for pain. There’s even an emerging therapeutic field known as humor therapy, which uses humor to help people heal more quickly, among other things.
In the midst of the recession, foreclosures and lay-offs, Filipino Americans are invited to a night of good belly laughs, fun and exciting entertainment on Sept 12 at the Alex Theatre in Glendale. Set to entertain the audience with their outstanding and distinctive brands of comedy are Joey Guila, Ron Josol and Jo Awayan, who will join Rex Navarrete in the Pinoy All-Stars of Comedy.
Ron Josol - The First Filipino Canadian Comedian
Ron Josol is a professional Canadian stand-up comedian and actor of Filipino descent who performs around the globe. He is the first Filipino Canadian Comedian in Canada. His style is a mix between his experience as an Asian in the North American entertainment industry and his personal thoughts about life.
Performing regularly in Canada, US, Pacific Islands, Persian Gulf, Asia, Central America and the Middle East, Ron is the most recognizable Asian comedian in Canada.
He was profiled on the Comedy Network, ABS-CBN Asia, Showtime Dubai, CBC, Discovery channel, Echo, Omni1& 2, MTV Canada, and recently on Biography Channel Canada. He has hosted his own television series on the new Omni2 network, called "FLIP." He produced, co-wrote and starred as the lead of a short film based on his true story entitled, Rolling Longganiza, which aired on the CBC Zflicks. He has written and performed on the Much Music hit show, Video on Trial, and Much More Music.
Ron first achieved his own comedy special in 2000, Comedy Now, on CTV/Comedy network. His taped stand-up comedy video won the Craven A’s funniest home grown competition for the Just For Laughs comedy festival. Since then, he has performed in many festivals such as the Winnipeg Comedy Festival, Just for Laughs festival, International Comedy Fest 2k8 and The Orange County Comedy Festival.
He has been featured in ABS-CBN’s Slanted comedy taped at the San Jose Improv and recently recorded two comedy specials produced by Showtime Dubai for a record crowd of 2,500. The first, called, Friday Night Live in the Middle East, and the second called The New World Order, were aired and sold to 14 countries.
