I NEVER expected that one of the medleys included the songs Blue Rondo by Al Jarreau and Westside Story’s Tonight. The Al Jarreau song has a technical riff meant for the highest schooled singer. I would say that this is one of the highlights of the concert while Martin couldn’t catch up with the arpeggio encoded melody, he did a very funny mimicry which was so effectively hilarious. The way they arranged it was pure genius!
Did you hear Martin’s version of Louie Ocampo’s "Tell me, I don’t know the words," then you would have been cracking like a mad hyena.I heard somebody laughed like a goat then I lost my sanity at that moment! Gary danced like a 24-year-old, with diabetes and at skinny 45—a dazzling fashionista! The teleserye and movie theme songs segments were heart-warming melodies which the two music icons owned.
If you weren’t there, then you missed a decade worth of performances by the two living legends.
The success of the show was also purely enhanced by a genius live mixing engineer, Jaime Godinez, who knows the timbre of both singers and stepped up the whole sound package with accurate treatment like the lush reverb of Martin’s voice and the soul resonance of Gary’s voice.
This is where the $150.00 VIP’s worth kick in absolutely. You can hear the live orchestration clearly not overpowering the vocals. PURE Genius! I know it because I’m an audio engineer myself and I tested the angles: I went to the center top section, the left box section, the right box section and the square middle orchestra section. Every producer’s integrity is on the line when audio miscalculations happen because every ticket holder including the tone deaf deserve a good sound, PERIOD. I had this ear relief feeling while watching AS 1 on that Sunday nigh, finally.
I’ll give four shining stars to the Line Producer, Terry Badiola for pulling a wonderful job in the promotions. On a personal note, I would like to thank Earl Badiola for the five-star accomodation at the venue and "Swagger" Boy Tecson for being a true trooper. I spoke with one of the producers’ Erdie de Peralta and while being oblivious with the whole idea of producing the show, he got lucky on his first venture. Kudos Erdie!
