Now, that President Barack Hussein Obama officially took the reign of president of the United States of America, he’ll have a lot of important issues to deal with. From the economic crisis, war on terror to the immigration debate, Fil-Ams from all across the nation will watch closely what the 44th president will accomplish during his four-year term.

Here are a few quotes from Fil-Ams about what they think Obama’s presidency.

On an African American appointed as president

"I never thought this day would come. Him being appointed as president of the United States shows the whole world that our government is gearing towards a better change and actually breaking the racial barrier."

Richie Arce

On Foreign Policy

"I hope Obama can mainly restore the trust we have for our government by showing much more diplomatic strategies abroad and at home. I think without that nothing can get done whether it’s helping our economy or doing trade and resolving situations in other countries."

Ritzel Quito

Economy

"Obama’s biggest issue is the economy. Everyone’s going to judge his four years in office on what he does with our economy - creating new jobs, helping businesses big and small get back on its feet. It’s going to take a long time, but he has to get us moving in the right direction, or else it’s going to get worse."

Jon Ibay

Faith

"That I will help him, help us. Everyone has to do his or her share. The reason things never changed in the past is the lack of faith and hope in our leaders, but when people believe in someone/something, they’ll change themselves to change the greater picture."

Ray Rufino

Message to Obama

"I would say that our world isn’t perfect, and no leader is perfect. We just need honesty and justice restored in our government. And to carry out his term with the same spirit and morals that earned him the trust of Americans. He’s already accomplished the main issue, which is injecting and restoring hope and optimism in the citizens. Nothing can be achieved without the trust and support from your citizens."
