Ana Julaton strikesShe is armed with a fresh, open, inviting smile. She has flowing, straight black hair and a lean physique that suggests she might be in modeling or in the entertainment field. She is shy by nature but rises to the occasion when asked to speak in front of a crowd.

She is… Ana "The Hurricane" Julaton, IBA Super Bantamweight titleholder, who will be gunning for a second world title on December 4 at the HP Pavilion in San Jose.

Julaton will return to the site of her IBA title fight triump, and this time will take on Donna "Nature Girl" Biggers for the WBO Super Bantamweight title.

A very focused Ana, who graciously allowed Asian Journal to interview her by phone, said she is training very hard in her quest to unite the IBA and WBO Super Bantamweight titles.

Julaton revealed that she is doing two sessions a day – strengthening & conditioning with Lauro Dorolia for about two to three hours, and boxing/bag work/sparring with trainer Rick Noble, who has developed world champions.

"I feel stronger and faster," Ana replied when asked if she has noticed any changes. "I am more aware of and really comfortable with my body now. The training has also helped me deal with injuries that I had acquired early in my boxing career."

Aside from her training, Julaton and her team has developed a game plan for the fight with Biggers which they are keeping a secret. They have also watched videos of some of Biggers’ fights.

A second world title will elevate Ana further in the realm of female boxing. Having won a world title in only her fifth professional fight has certainly enhanced her image and made her a celebrity.

Recently, she was given an award by Filipina Women’s Network as one of the "100 Most Influential Filipino Women," was sent a personal letter of recognition by Philippine President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo, was recognized by San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom for her accomplishments in and out of the ring, and had the honor of having October 29, 2009 proclaimed as Ana Julaton Day.

"I did not expect that. It was a huge, huge honor," Julaton remarked, referring to the letter of recognition from President Arroyo. "I am even surprised that she’s aware of who I am."

As for the FWN recognition, Julaton said she was in awe of the women who received the same award.

"Just to be in the company of these ladies was such an honor," she stated. "I am glad that there’s a group that highlights the contribution of Filipino American women. I was very impressed with the people who received the awards."

Her celebrity status has certainly changed her life.
