King of comedy, Dolphy In celebration of his 65th year entertaining Filipinos with heartwarming comedy, Dolphy returns to the big screen with the blockbuster hit, Nobody, Nobody But Juan. The movie was one of the entries in the 2009 Metro Manila Film Festival and was recently premiered in four United States locations - in Vallejo, San Francisco, Glendale and Park Ridge, Illinois. The King of Comedy himself and son, Eric Quizon, who conceptualized, directed and also starred in the movie were on hand to greet the thousands of Fil-Am fans who flocked to watch the film. Perfect entertainment for the whole family, Nobody, Nobody but Juan features a star-studded cast which also includes Gloria Romero, Eddie Garcia, Heart Evangelista,Willy Revillame, G Toengi, Pokwang, Eugene Domingo, Epy Quizon and Vandolph.

In an exclusive interview with Asian Journal held in Glendale, Pidol, as he is lovingly called by friends, shared his excitement about the making of the movie. "Enjoy na enjoy kaming lahat in the making of the movie. Part of it was filmed in Manila and part in Chicago pero sobrang lamig doon, kaya madaming scenes ay sa indoor namin na-shoot," said Dolphy, who played Juan, who lives in a senior home in the US, run by his son (Eric) and daughter-in-law (G Tongi). Juan’s favorite past-time is watching Wowowee on The Filipino Channel. Through the show, Juan gets to connect with his first love, Aida, whom he lost touch with during the Japanese occupation of Manila. Veteran actor Eddie Garcia plays his long-lost friend in the movie while Gloria Romero plays his long-lost love.

Dolphy was all praises for Gloria, with whom he has co-starred in films, many decades ago. "Sampaguita days pa kami ni Gloria. Dati sidekick ako ng mga katambal niya. Minsan, naging magka-love team din kami, pero black and white pa mga pelikula noon," recalled Dolphy with a grin. "Si Gloria ang masasabi kong talagang Queen of Philippine movies. Bukod sa napakagaling umarte, napakabait pa. Way back pa, magaling na siya sa komedya. Although mahusay din siya sa drama, magaling din mag-kenkay. Grateful ako ngayon na nagkasama uli kami dito sa Nobody, Nobody but Juan," added Pidol.

The love story/comedy/ family entertainment spans an era of more than 60 years from the 1940s to the present, taking place in the US and the Philippines. Produced by Eric Quizon’s Kaizz Ventures together with Dolphy’s RVQ Productions, and Joe Aldeguer Productions, the movie is also making history as the first Filipino/Tagalog movie that will be shown in AMC Theatres across America, from Feb 26-March 4. "We’re so happy that AMC agreed to open their doors to us. This is an unbelievable opportunity for us," shared Eric. His co-producer, Joe Aldeguer, added, "Gateway na ito para sa mga Filipino movies to be shown in major theatres in America. And who better to first represent the Filipinos than Tito Dolphy?"

Dolphy too was very happy about the turn-out of events. "Nagpapasalamat ako na hanggang ngayon ay patuloy pa rin ang pagsuporta sa akin ng ating mga kababayang mahilig sa komedya," he said.

Commenting on the movie’s plot of a senior Pinoy wanting to reconnect with his first love of more than 60 years ago, Pidol said, "I believe it is true that first love never dies. Kasi hindi mo talaga makakalimutan iyong first time mong naramdaman yung paano ma in-love, unang beses kang umibig. Ang first love ko noong teen-ager pa ako, high school ako noon pero nagka-guera so hindi na ako nakatapos, nabago ng husto buhay.

Dolphy recalled the hard times during the war, which was also the setting of his romance in the movie with the young Aida (Gloria Romero). "Naranasan ko noong panahon ng Hapon, hard times talaga. Lugaw lang kinakain namin; pag may tinapay na may matamis na bao, happy na kami. Kahit anong trabaho kinukuha ko noon – nag kutsero ako to make a living," recalled the King of Comedy who believes that the hardships in life has made him a better actor. "Kaya, minsan, ang mga comedy films na ginagawa ko ay may kasamang drama, may kurot sa
puso," he shared.
