Claudine Barretto’s drama anthology entitled Claudine aired it’s pilot episode last April 10 at the Kapuso Network. This is her first project under GMA-7 since her transfer from ABS-CBN. The actress was given an extravagant press conference for her launch and was elated with the warm reception given by her new network family.
"Sobra akong overwhelmed sa warmth na ipinakita nyo sa akin and truly, you always make me feel comfortable. Syempre noong una ho talaga, nangangapa pa ako. Hindi rin ho biro yung 17 years sa ABS-CBN. This is the first time na lumabas po ako out of my comfort zone and they’ve been really so wonderful and parang I’m blessed with so much and Igot more than what Ireally wanted," Claudine said.
A VTR was shown at the press conference wherein Claudine’s friends (from ABS-CBN) greeted and wished her the best including Judy Ann Santos, Kris Aquino, Diether Ocampo and Director Wenn Deramas. The four top executives of GMA namely Atty. Felipe Gozon, Mr. Jimmy Duavit, Atty. Anette Gozon-Abrogar and Ms. Wilma Galvante each gave their messages of welcome. The actress conveyed to the press that she truly felt the sincerity of the network’s acceptance of her as a Kapuso.
The only thing that saddens the actress is the fact that her anthology was simultaneously aired with Gretchen Barretto’s episode of Maalaala Mo Kaya in the other network. She was honest enough to tell the press that she’s not happy. "Hindi po ako natutuwa. Malungkot po ako. Dumating sa point na kung pwedeng ma-move na lang next week or next next week yung airing ng Claudine. It affects my parents badly. Ang parents ko ho, 70 plus na, huwag naman sana, sabi ng dad ko, na pagsabungin kaming magkapatid kasi pamilya namin ‘to e. Three years ko hong di nakausap ang kapatid ko. Naging magka-away kami for such a long time and sana wag lang s’yang magamit," said Claudine.
Claudine also spoke about her relationship with Gretchen. "Alam nyo, honestly, ayoko talagang magsabi about my ate. Kasi, all she wants is to work, and you know, Ireally want to give her that with all sincerity. Ayoko lang na pag-awayin kami ulit. Please naman."
According to Claudine, she hasn’t spoken with Gretchen yet. "Siguro, may mga nakakarating lang sa ate ko na hindi naman talaga totoo. Ayoko talagang isipin kasi nangako ako, even sa ate ko na hindi na talaga kami mag-aaway. At sana talaga, kung anuman ang sama ng loob nya, kung anuman ang pinaparating sa kanya, sana wala na lang," the actress said.
When asked if she thinks that the simultaneous airing was intentional, Claudine said that she hopes it wasn’t deliberate. She is really concerned about what her parents would feel. "Ireally feel they don’t deserve this. Para makita mo ang dalawang anak mo na parang pinagsasabong, masakit yun," the actress said.
Gretchen Barretto on the other hand, had a separate press conference as an endorser for Glutamax. When asked if she knew about the simultaneous airing, the actress said "Wala po akong intensyon na manakit ng tao. Ako naman, alam n’yo naman, buhay ko ‘to -- ang pag-aartista, ‘yon lang ang ginagawa ko." She is welcome to the idea and views it in a positive way: two Barrettos will be aired at the same time in the two biggest rival networks.
At the beginning of the presscon, Gretchen was accommodating in answering questions and graciously asked the press to spare her and Claudine from conflict. "Magkapatid kami, hindi kami dapat pag-awayin." However, the press kept bombarding her with questions about her sibling which irked La Greta and made her walk out of the presscon.
Let’s hope that despite all the intrigues thrown at them, the relationship between Claudine and La Greta will not be affected -- for the sake of their parents and family. The adage "Trabaho lang, walang personalan" still holds true for them.
