It has only been 5 weeks since Party Pilipinas hit the airwaves and already, the show faces a major problem -- Louie Ignacio has resigned as its director.
It will be recalled that Party Pilipinas replaced the long-running weekend noontime show SOP.
For some time, SOP ruled the airtime against its rival ASAP. However, their high rating was short-lived. When their ratings started to drop, SOP was not able to recover the top spot. Attempting to regain their lost glory, GMA-7 did a reformat of the show and Party Pilipinas was born.
Party Pilipinas is the new Sunday musical variety noontime show that replaced SOP. It promises to change the Sunday viewing habits of Filipinos by giving them "all party-all positive vibe", world-class entertainment featuring GMA-7’s roster of world class talents -- Ogie Alcasid, Regine Velasquez, Janno Gibbs, Jaya and many more. It has bigger production numbers and performances and has plans to air on various locations outside of the home studio.
Now, the new show faces a big challenge with the resignation of Louie Ignacio as director of the show.
In an article with PEP, Louie shared his sentiments and frustrations with the show. There are a lot of factors which contributed to his resignation.
As a director, he had no freedom to do what he wanted with the program. "Parang dictated na ang gustong mangyari sa show. Hindi ko na ito show. Parang idinirek ko na lang sa TV pero hindi ako ang nagde-decide kung paano patakbuhin yung show. Ginagawa ko na lang ito kung ano ang gusto ni ganyan. Hay naku, basta!" Louie said.
He was also irked by the attitude of the stars and performers of the said show. "Ayaw nilang mag-rehearse. Paano mapapaganda yung show? Hindi alam ng tao, sa director bumabagsak pag pangit yung show. Yun ang diperensya. Wala akong boses. Wala akong power," Louie vented.
He also said that as the director, he experienced a lot of stress and pressure. "Grabe kasi yung mga naiinggit sakin. Hindi lang ordinaryong tao. Pati yung ibang director na gustong gawin ang Party Pilipinas," he said.
According to Louie, he already spoke with the executives of GMA-7 and his decision to quit is final. "Nakapag-decide na ako. Hindi na ako babalik. Ayoko ng ma-stress."
Yet despite this huge hurdle, Party Pilipinas will push through with its broadcast this Sunday in Davao, with Rommel Gacho as its temporary director.
Will they be able to bounce back after this? After all, the show must go on.
