“Comfort is sexy to me. You have a lot of women that wear these very nice outfits but they look stiff like they can’t move. What’s the use of wearing something if you can’t enjoy it?”

When you know for sure what you want in life, what your purpose is, wherein your passion lies --- nothing will stop you from achieving that. No matter how many obstacles comes your way or how difficult the odds may be, you will persevere. Never say die. That’s the attitude of Alan Del Rosario and it has certainly paid off.

Alan was born and raised in Cebu, Philippines. Even at a young age, he knew that his passion lay in the world of arts, fashion and design. But his parents didn’t approve of the idea.  So, he made a deal with his parents — he’ll get a degree in civil engineering first as a safety net. But after graduation, they will allow him to pursue his dream. Thus, in the late 1980’s, with a degree in Civil Engineering, Del Rosario went to Los Angeles to study at The Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising (FIDM). He became one of the best students of FIDM and was awarded the prestigious Bob Mackey fashion design award and scholarship which enabled him to go to Europe and pick out hundreds of thousands of dollars’ worth of fabric. The award opened doors for him in LA’s fashion world.

Del Rosario worked for a large company learning the ropes and business side of the fashion industry. After a few years, in 1999, Alan started his own line of clothes, branded Del Rosario, which became a major hit. A year later, Gen Art LA awarded him a winner of the prestigious ‘Fresh Faces’ in fashion for eveningwear.

In an earlier interview, Alan related the story of his early business ventures. “When I won the 1st place designer for Gen Art, it increased my demand. When the orders came as a result of my award, I was only able to fill half of them—I just couldn’t deliver. I was trying to get backers, and I was so close until 911 happened. So, instead of digging myself even deeper in debt, I decided to close the business. Soon after, I had another chance to do the Relic jean line, and unfortunately it too was hit in just a short time. My financier got hit big time, also. So I closed that business, too,” Alan admitted.

“It was a hard time for me,” said Del Rosario. “I was on top then lost everything.”

But, as they say, when the going gets tough, the tough gets going. Alan decided to hang on and persevere. He joined a small clothing company which he was able to turn from a $7 million-a-year business to a $40 million earner. Then, a few years ago, Alan ran into an old friend and they decided to join forces and start a new line, this time called Alan Del Rosario.

Debuted March 21, 2006, at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week, Alan Del Rosario, the couture line, was incredibly received by the fashion world. People still remembered Alan from his previous line, Del Rosario, and buyers could not wait to have him in their stores again. In a short time, Alan rose again to the top of the fashion and design world, with celebrities buying and wearing his clothes and prestigious stores and specialty shops putting in voluminous orders.
