Alan’s new line is more couture than the first, the prices ranging from $1,500-$3,000 depending on the style. “Everything is more subtle, more refined. The look is much younger,” is how Alan described his new line. He said that his designs fit the modern woman- simple and sophisticated- with an emphasis on comfort.  “Comfort is sexy to me. You have a lot of women that wear these very nice outfits but they look stiff like they can’t move. What’s the use of wearing something if you can’t enjoy it?” he stated.

Alan recently established a clothing label called Bow & Arrow, a more accessible collection for the everyday woman who demands affordable style in every face of her day and night. He describes the collection as sexy, sophisticated and funky. He also launched a junior contemporary line, Baby Tears, which caters to today’s juniors, ranging from high school through 30s.  His work has also been showcased on the TV reality show Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency and the Mercedez-Benz Fashion Show during LA fashion week.

Alan’s past business failure has taught him a valuable lesson --- that even if you’re a great designer, you still need the right financiers to make it. “If you really want to start your own business, remember that it is a business. You’ve got to have your finances on track, and just remind yourself that it’s a business because it can be taken away from you. If you don’t address that, no matter how creative you are, if you don’t have the backing and are reckless with your spending, it can be taken away from you. There are a lot of great people out there, but if you’re not properly financed, don’t start a business unless your dream is just to be small and make only enough money to pay the bills. But even then, there is no guarantee that will be enough,” said Alan.

More importantly, Alan advises young designers to follow their heart. “Be true to yourself,” he said. “Don’t be influenced by other people or designers. If you have a vision, and some other people might not like it, 90 percent of the time you’re right. Believe in yourself.”

Humbly grateful for all the successes that have come his way, Alan stressed, “I am very blessed. I love what I do. Nothing can stop me.”  (www.asianjournal.com)
