Make Way For Pinoy Fashion

The fashion industry in the Philippines was virtually unknown before three talented designers -- Christian Espiritu, Ben Farrales and Pitoy Moreno decided to defy the odds and establish an industry where aspiring designers can practice their craft. They unleashed and showcased their world-class talent in fashion and design.

After that highlighted event in 1959, fashion in the Philippines changed since then. A new brood of designers made way in the fashion scene and made their creations noticed.

Inno Sotto presented his talent with elaborate and colourful ensembles that put every name who wore his designs in the best-dressed list. Rajo Laurel’s maximized reflection of the culture in his designs and his wardrobe with shimmering contemporary twists tickled the fashion fancy. Randy Ortiz also made name with his highly instinctive yet with logical approach creations. He made raves because of the amazing detailing of his creations’ vignette. Ramon Valera contributed in the fashion industry with his vintage and stand-out pieces. Jojie Lloren, one of Christian Espiritu’s protégés, was recognized because of his classic fabulous gowns. The came along where other designers who also made raves in the country’s fashion industry with their unique opulent creations.

There is no doubt that the Philippines has an infinite number of talented fashion designers. They are inspired by the country’s rich art, culture and lifestyle. There may have been lulls in this industry in the past, but the country is certainly stepping up to the challenge to reach its goal to be a world’s fashion capital.

Putting Philippines in the fashion globe is a top priority for every member of this industry. The standards of local fashion have been elevated with the Filipino designers’ dedication and professionalism matched with the equal amount of perseverance and tenacity.

From haute couture to commercial clothes, revolutionary to avant-garde, old and new, crazy and defined, and imagination and reality, Filipino fashion designers’ have created an extreme prospect on Philippine fashion. Every Filipino fashion creation that struts the runways extract “wows” and standing ovation from its audience.

From freelance beginnings, fashion in the Philippines has come a long way. Filipino designs and artistry are being showcased. The industry has been globally competitive against the country’s lack of resources and technology. The Filipino talents and skills are already at par to challenge the dynamics of the world of fashion. The fashion industry in the country is influenced by the past and driven by the future, and since then has been setting the aesthetics for the modern times. This is the era for Philippine fashion to be the world’s most desired and respected fashion stop, and a place where people all around the world will be looking forward to in the years to come.  (www.asianjournal.com)
