Women have a special relationship with their purse. American poet Ellen Rachlin once wrote, “A woman in her lifetime will spend far more hours hugging a handbag than a man.” Which is probably true.

Sales of handbags account for nearly $5 billion in sales in the United States each year, according to the Wall Street Journal.

A purse has become a social and class symbol. A purse carries all the tools and accessories every woman needs while maintaining a sense of style.

For Fil-Am Gina Alexander, her line of purses has a significant meaning especially for her customers.

Since women spend so much time with their purse, rather than carrying a purse with a designer label, why not customize it to something more personable?

“A picture-of a lover, a friend, a child, a pet, husband, wife, mother or father; an image of the whole family, or somebody who is gone but not forgotten or a reunion, anniversary, birthday, a great moment at the office,” her website proclaims.

Her unique line of high-end photo handbags have become the hallmark of a Gina Alexander bag and have moved her line of handbags from a mom-and-pop garage shop to a multi-million dollar empire sold in department stores like Nordstrom, Macy’s, ICE Accessories and Saks Inc. and boutiques nationwide.

Each purse is stylish and sleek and can be custom made for the customer.

Gina Alexander allows the customers to design their own handbag through a special design process. The process entails taking a photograph and processing it right onto the fabric through a special technique.

The photo handbags have become a popular and hit item.

Singer and Actress Beyonce, Penelope Cruz, Elizabeth Taylor, Jennifer Lopez, Sharon Stone, and Oprah, and even male celebrities like Ben Affleck, Kobe Bryant, and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger have all purchased Gina Alexander handbags.

Her lines of handbags have appeared on the Dr. Phil Show and magazines such as Elle, People and US Magazine have featured Gina Alexander.

The former Miss Philippines Los Angeles 1985 and Miss Gardena, Alexander has studied in fashion institutes worldwide and worked under designers Sue Wong, Rampage, and Isabella Fiore, to name a few.

“I’ve always loved accessories,” said Alexander in a previous Asian Journal article. “I went backstage before a fashion show and gravitated towards all the accessories.”

She said visiting fabric mills in Italy sparked her love for printing fabric.

But what makes a Gina Alexander bag even more special is that a percentage of each customer purchase is donated to Hope for Children, an orphanage in the Philippines.

One of her recent celebrity fundraisers raised over $148,000.

“I love my life and what I do. I’m living the life [that] I love!” she said. (www.asianjournal.com)
