The above lyrics from the song, Love in a Hot Air Balloon, may have inspired student pilot Isauro Thomas Edison (TE) San Pedro III as he thought of a memorable way to propose to his girlfriend, Asian Journal’s Advertising Manager and Balikbayan Magazine’s Vice-President, Sharon Ann Bathan. The pair has been going steady for three years when a few months ago, TEtook Sharon to ride with him on a hot air balloon. There, hundreds of feet overlooking the vineyards of Temecula Valley Wine Country, TEtold Sharon to look down and when she did, she saw a banner that said the magic words–I had an inspiration
It’s silent aviation
Watch me fly,
through the sky,
higher and higher
Eagle eye,
one mile high,
watch us fly
- Love in a Hot Air Balloon
"Sharon, will you marry me?"
"Hanep, how sweet…nilanggam ang screen ng lappie ko," said one friend who saw the pictures of the proposal on Facebook.
Yes, the love affair of Sharon and TEhas truly been romantic and sweet, described by many as "destined to happen." Sharon happily explains, "Our love story is our own Serendipity. Eleven years ago, we lived in the village next to each other in Manila. He hung out at our neighbor’s house all the time for many years. Although we have many common friends and often heard of each other’s names mentioned by these friends, we never personally met. I guess during those times we were not yet meant to meet."A consistent President’s Lister in college, Sharon is a graduate of Bachelors in Communication with honors and an excellent thesis awardee from St. Paul College. She also has a Master’s degree in Communication Research in Ateneo de Manila University. Sharon Ann worked as head researcher for the News and Current Affairs department of ABS-CBN before she migrated to the US in 2000. In LA, she joined the Asian Journal Publications. Sharon was planning to pursue a career in Law and received a full scholarship in Southwestern University in Los Angeles CA when fate stepped in.
TE enrolled at the Airlink International Aviation College, taking up Bachelor of Science in Aviation. "I’ve always wanted to be a pilot, but my father asked me to help him run the family business (B-MIRK Enterprises Corporation – the largest packaging company in the Philippines), so I put that dream on hold and worked for our company for four years," said TE.
Being the eldest son of a very successful businessman, Mr. Isauro San Pedro, TEwas the first child to help in the family business as Technical Director. To date, the company evolved to B-MIRK GROUP OF COMPANIES, under which are 5 different companies leading in their industry. In May 13, 2007, while vacationing in the Philippines, Sharon was invited to her friend’s house for a get-together. There, she finally met TE. "The first time I saw him, I felt my heart beat faster. I never felt like that before. Who would have thought that it had to take me 7 years of living in a different country, and to travel thousands of miles back in the Philippines for me to meet my future husband? That day may have been what you would call an accidental meeting, but actually, it was destiny that took its course. I guess in God’s time we were meant to meet. That unexpected day, that unplanned event was when we met our destiny," related Sharon. "Our love affair took 10 years in the making," concurred TE. "I have often heard her name mentioned by our friends but never got to meet her. Tapos, nadidinig ko nga na pumunta na siya sa States. She has been there for 7 years na when we finally got to meet. From the very start, we felt so comfortable with each other," shared TE. The couple saw each other several more times before Sharon went back to LA. "In our first 7 days of seeing each other which was her last 7 days in Manila, I already knew I don’t need a lifetime to figure out if she’s the one. I’m already certain that I wanted a lifetime with her." said TE. " But, I also told her I didn’t believe in long distance relationships, that it’s hard to make it succeed. But, Sharon showed me I was wrong. She called me often and then came back to the Philippines after just a month," said TE.Sharon recalled, "I went back again to find out what was really in store for both of us. Since I knew that my schedule will be tough once I started law school, I decided to go back to spend more time with TEwhile I could. We were together all the time and we discovered that we’re really in love." Upon her return to the States, Sharon knew TEis the man who completed her. On the day before classes started, Sharon decided to defer her decision to go to law school. "It was the best decision I have made in my life," said Sharon, who went back to Manila again in November 2007 and officially became a couple and spent the holidays there with TEand his family. In February 2008, TEfollowed her in California."I talked to my dad and told him I wanted to pursue my dream of becoming a commercial pilot again. He agreed and so I went to California and enrolled at the Rainbow Air Academy as a student pilot," said TEwho was then able to have both his wishes fulfilled – to be with his ladylove and to train to be a pilot. The past three years have been smooth sailing for the couple, which led to the historic proposal aboard the hot air balloon. | < Prev | Next > |
