KNOWN daughter to business tycoons, Reynaldo and Cecilia Ongpauco, Love Marie Ongpauco, popularly known as Heart Evangelista, is not only considered as one of the prettiest socialites of the Metro, but is also regarded as an award-winning actress who spent most of her youth in the limelight.
Despite her privileged life, it was known to many that Heart also had her shares of ups and downs. From a sweet relationship gone sour; to an almost dwindling career; and a controversial rift with her family, Heart has learned her mistakes and has proven that she is not that spoiled brat that many would still like to think.
Ever since she confirmed her relationship with Daniel Matsunaga, Heart, has been giving out a noticeably peaceful and grounded aura despite her elite status in the showbiz industry.
Daniel is a Brazillian-Japanese model, who has posed for major magazines and had also appeared in different TV commercials. He was later on signed as one of GMA’s newest talents.
Heart and Daniel first met in the set of GMA’s Langit Sa Piling Mo, where the latter played the role of a pilot in love with a stewardess. Daniel’s character, however, was only a supporting role. Heart’s leading man in the series was Kapuso actor, Dennis Trillo.
In an interview with Startalk last year, Heart revealed that it was not during the tapings of Langit sa Piling Mo that she and Daniel became close, but rather, through common friends that the couple usually hang out with every Tuesdays. It was also during the same interview that Heart first admitted to the public that she and Daniel are officially dating.
Heart and Daniel’s undeniable chemistry and honest love for each never fail to inspire audiences whenever they guest for interviews on television.
“Nakakatuwa kasi noong nasa Japan kami, nakapila kami sa roller coaster and meron mga teenager na Hapon pinipicturan kami. Siguro nakikilig din sila. At least nakakahawa naman ang kiligness. Kaming dalawa we’re very blessed to have each other,” shared Heart during her interview with John Lapuz last October 17, 2010 on Showbiz Central.
Heart, who just recently came from a three-week vacation from Matsunaga’s home in Brazil, shared how Daniel’s family warmly welcomed and took good care of her while she was there.
The modest lifestyle that the Matsunagas have also amused Heart. The actress said in Showbiz Central last July 17 that the whole experience in Brazil served as a learning experience for her, and that the trip made her appreciate living life like an average person even for just a few weeks.
Used to doing everything with her mom and manager, Mrs. Cecilia, Heart divulged about doing many things for the first time in Brazil; like doing her own laundry. The young actress further added that she has learned a lot from Daniel as he toured her around in Brazil. But among all the places she visited, the actress cited the farm of Daniel’s grandfather as the most memorable one, given its abundant yet humble environment.
Affirming that the trip indeed “made a difference” in Heart’s life, Daniel said that his family was delighted when it was Heart’s turn to go over to Brazil and visit them.
It can be recalled that Daniel’s parents went to the Philippines last year to surprise their son on his birthday. Another exclusive report by Showbiz Central affirmed that this was the first instance that Heart personally met with Daniel’s parents. Upon meeting the latter, all Heart could say was that Daniel’s family were “all super nice.” And that she is “in love with his family.”
Heart’s parents, meanwhile, have also met Daniel. The actress said her parents approve of her boyfriend too.
Following Daniel’s birthday party was his sister’s wedding. Asked if he also had plans of tying the knot someday, Daniel said in Showbiz Central last December 5, 2010 that he hopes to someday have a wedding like his sister’s, with Heart as his bride.
“I even said to the manager of the place that we would be the next (to get married),” jested Daniel.
Asked of her answer should Daniel propose to her this 2011, Heart did not hesitate to answer during the Don’t Lie To Me segment of Showbiz Central last February 6, that she will say “Y-E-S” to the proposal. She also said that she asked for a sign from God that if Daniel really is the one, the latter would give her a bible and he did.
Given that Heart came from a a very prominent and wealthy family, Lolit Santos of Startalk could not help but ask the actress if it’s okay with her if Daniel could not provide her the kind of life she’s used to should they get married.
Beaming, Heart said that “there are things that money can’t buy.” She also said that while receiving gifts can make a girl feel like a princess, “it’s not the only thing that can make you happy.” Further stressing that it’s the simple things in life that matters, Heart said that she would “rather have a small home full of love kaysa malaki pero lonely ka naman, wag nalang.”
