The entrepreneur in Bea Alonzo

For someone who started out young in the entertainment industry, it is has always been presumed that money comes easily for a famous actress like Bea Alonzo, and that she could care less on splurging or planning for her future. Bea, however, proves her critics wrong by considering a business venture apart from her career in the entertainment industry.

No matter how successful she is now, Bea, who goes by the name of Phylbert Angellie Ranollo Fagestrom off-screen, is still aware that a career in show business is not forever; which was why she considered the advice of her Guns and Roses co-stars, Diether Ocampo and Isabelle Rivas, to be more responsible when it comes to spending her money.

Although she was able to save from her earnings as an actress of more than ten years, Bea admitted that she needs to save more in order to have a capital for her own business in the future.

As performer who grew comfortable in acting, modelling, endorsing, hosting, and even singing on the spotlight, Bea thought it was about time that she starts gaining confidence from other fields as well like engaging into sports like golf; or in a business like poultry farming.

“Right now, the only field I can think of that I am most comfortable at is this (showbiz). That’s why, somehow, I want to try golf, maybe then I’ll gain self-confidence from other things, who knows, I might also do well in other things (aside from acting), I just haven’t discovered it yet,” the actress said in Tagalog.

Besides her mom who manages a pond in Quezon, Bea divulged in the same PEP interview that it was through Ms. Rivas’ influence that also made her want to try poultry farming. Considering the advanced technology popularly used in poultry farming today, Bea shared that she will have to conduct a feasibility study about poultry farming first and read more books and magazines about entrepreneurship and agriculture before she totally engages into the business.

Born to a Filipina mom and a British dad who got separated when she was still four, Bea had to be the bread winner of her family as early as 15 years old. Still a high school student at that time, Bea chose to pursue a career in show business and put her education on hold.

The actress, however, expressed in her recent interview on The Buzz, that she still dreams of going to college one day. Not because she wanted a diploma, but because she wanted to really learn from the whole academic experience; like how much she has learned from working in show business.

“I always go with the flow. Now, I am given lots of opportunities in life. And I always say this during interviews that my situation is the opposite. Others study to be able to work in the future. I work to be able to send myself to school because no one else can.”

Although she barely knew her father, Bea never grew bitter. Instead, she turned out to be responsible and smart lady who knew how to steer clear from intrigues and draw the line between her work and private life. Rarely discussing anything about her family or her love life but still being generous on providing information that the public should know, Bea proves that good publicity or scandals are not necessary just so actors can be talked about. Her moving talent, generosity, and genuine appreciation for her supporters were all it took to gain her the success she has been enjoying.

An actress who can outstandingly perform any role given her, Bea’s effective acting in movies like One More Chance, And I Love You So, Tanging Yaman and Pak Pak My Dr. Quack; as well as her performances on television like Maging Sino Ka Man, I Love Betty La Fea and Magkaribal, gained her commendations from critics and also earned her the admiration of some of the veteran actors in show business like Vic Sotto, Coney Reyes, Lorna Tolentino, and Isabelle Rivas, her most recent co-star in Guns and Roses.

Bea feels flattered that such prominent personalities in the entertainment industry appreciate her work; she also feels the same way for her supporters who she not only treats as mere admirers, but as friends who supported her all the way.
