Janno Gibbs proves he still has more to offer as a performer

After taking a break from his career for more than a year, Janno Ronaldo Gibbs bounces back with more vigor and energy than ever before.  Also known as the country’s King of Soul, Janno was known for his ballad hits such as Fallin’, Ikaw Lamang, Ipagpatawad Mo, among many others.

As a singer and comedian, Janno has proven that he hasn’t lost his touch even at 42.  His successful comeback and benefit concert entitled Janno Gives last October 15, 2011 held at the Music Museum in Greenhils, San Juan, can attest to that.  Happy to be performing again after five years, Janno showcased his talent once more in singing while doing comic acts at the same time.  It was also through the concert that Janno and other Kapuso stars were able to help the beneficiaries of the Yes Pinoy Foundation, headed by their fellow Kapuso actor, Dingdong Dantes.

Knowing that his concert will have a variety of audiences, Janno came prepared with songs that everybody can relate to.  Janno made his rendition of Moves Like Jagger and Jai Ho by tweaking the lyrics into “Moves Like Janno” and “Janno” respectively.  He also did a parody of the different artists that sang We Are the World; where he mimicked the voices of Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, among others.  The young at hearts swayed to his version of the classics:  Fly Me to the Moon, Night and Day, Ipagpatawad Mo, and Binibini—which he sang to his wife, Bing Loyzaga.

Janno disclosed that he still feels stage fright from time to time. However, he shares that all it takes for his nerves to calm down is a prodding nod from his family if they are watching his show; or some words of encouragement via text from his mother or Bing before he performs.

“Kailangan ko yung motivation ng dalawang babae sa buhay ko,” he said.

Contrary to the rumors that he and his wife have gone separate ways, Janno cleared in a report from the Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP) last September 23, 2011 that his family is still intact until now.  Careerwise, Janno also said that Bing and his daughters are happy for him especially now that he has regained the passion to perform again.

“Natutuwa sila kasi, feeling nila, parang nahanap ko ulit yung drive ko.”

Months ago when Janno decided to take a break from showbiz, it was not only his family that was rumored to be falling apart, but his career as well.  According to various showbiz reports, Janno’s lost of appetite to perform was attributed to him going through severe depression from his dwindling career.  The issue was traced to his punctuality problems towards work that eventually led to his absence from the Sunday musical show, Party Pilipinas, where he regularly performs.

In another report, Janno was bold enough to admit that he has indeed gone through some sort of depression but not to the point that he completely lost control of himself.  He said that it hurt him when people were beginning to wonder why he wasn’t as visible as he was then.  Despite of it all, Janno was stil able to look at things on a positive light.

“Pero ang positive side nun, may karugtong kasi na, ‘Sayang naman si Janno, magaling naman siya.”

An admitted introvert at times, Janno said he sought professional help.  Not for his alleged depression, but for his insomia that, according to him, has grown worse over the years.  According to Janno, his lack of sleep had caused him not only his health, but his career and perspective in life as well.  He said having insomia made him gain some weight and caused him punctuality problems that was why he needed to step out of the limelight for a while.

With the right amount of medication and proper discipline, Janno was proud to say that he was able to clean up his act and come back as a better person and perfomer.

“Ever since na bumalik ako sa Party Pilipinas, so far okay naman, hindi pa naman ako nale-late. Nakakapag-rehearse ako ng maaga,” he related.

Janno also said he was grateful for his decision to take a breather from showbiz because it was then that he felt starved to perform again.  He also realized that he needed to constantly hone his craft not as a celebrity, but as a true performer who values the quality of his art.

“Gusto ko, yung sa akin [dahilan sa pag perform], ginagawa ko siya for the love of... kasi gusto ko,” he stressed.

Aside from Party Pilipinas, Janno is also seen on television as a mentor in the hit reality talent search, the Protégé.
