Angel LocsinANGEL Locsin’s abrupt transfer from the GMA Network to ABSCBN early two years was met with much criticism but Angel’s recent nomination at the 37th International Emmy Awards will certainly erase all traces of negative publicity. The young actress is nominated for Best Actress for her portrayal of Lyka, her very first role since the network transfer, in the highly successful ‘fantaserye’ Lobo. For weeks, Pinoy audiences tuned in to the series and was charmed by Lyka, a werewolf in love with a mortal (played by Piolo Pascual).

Angel Locsin will compete with Emma de Caunes for Night Birds from France, Cecilia Suarez for Capadocia from Mexico and Julie Walters for A Short Stay in Switzerland. Julie Walters is already a recognized actress both in the US and in her homeland England having appeared as Molly Weasley in the Harry Potter films, and an award-winning one at that, thus making Angel’s inclusion as nominees all the more prestigious.

On the other hand, ABSCBN’s Kahit Isang Saglit which starred Jericho Rosales and Carmen Soo and GMA-7’s Magdusa Ka which featured Dennis Trillo and Katrina Halili are nominated for Best Telenovela. The two will compete with Brazil’s India—A Love Story and France’s Second Chance.

LOBO The International Emmy was established in 1969 to "promote excellence in interntational television programming." It hands out awards to the best TV prorams produced, and initially aired, outside the United States. The winners for the 37th International Emmy Awards will be announced on November 23 at the Hilton New York Hotel.

Angel, filled with much excitement, left the Philippines last Nov. 18 to attend the ceremonies scheduled next week. In her Twitter account, she thanked her fans for the support and the good wishes, writing: "Hi guys! I’m on my way na sa airport going to NY. Pakisama nyo na lang ako please sa  prayers nyo, mwah! :)" International Emmy win or not, Angel has already made us Pinoys proud. (AJPress)
