GMA showsGMA Network may not be winning in the ratings game against ABS-CBN, but last Friday, April 30, the network accomplished something which could mean a lot more than having the the top position in the TV ratings. GMA was awarded the the Gold Award for the Television Network Category in the Reader’s Digest Asia Most Trusted Brands for 2010.

Philstar.com reports that the awarding ceremony, held at the New World in Makati City, was attended by no less than GMA Network’s executive vice president and COO Gilberto R. Duavit Jr. and vice president for corporate communications Butch S. Raquel.

Reader’s Digest presents the Gold Trusted Brand Award to companies or products selected by Asian consumers as their preferred brand in the market. Achieving "Trusted Brand" status is a genuine recognition of consumers’ approval as the winners are selected on different categories and are rated based on trustworthiness, credibility, quality, value, understanding of customer needs, ability to innovate and social responsibility.

"We are honored to be chosen as one of the most trusted brands in the Philippines. I believe that GMA Network’s dedication and genuine commitment in providing superior quality entertainment and delivering credible news are reasons why we are top of mind among the respondents of this survey by Reader’s Digest. This recognition inspires us to further uphold one of our company’s core values which states that the viewer is our boss," Duavit said.

He added, "As GMA Network celebrates its 60th anniversary, being honored as one of the country’s most trusted brands gives importance to the hard work and devotion we have put in all these years. Looking forward, we assure our viewers that the network will make every effort in living up to this recognition in the years to come."

This comes on the heels of the network’s win last month of the George Foster Peabody Award (its second win) for its critically acclaimed documentary program I-Witness episode Ambulansiyang de Paa. And that’s not all, the network has also won several accolades since the new year began. VP for News Programs and multi-awarded broadcast journalist Jessica Soho was honored last February by People Asia Magazine as one of the 2009 People of the Year awardees, and the daily news program 24 Oras received the Ani ng Dangal state recognition early this year. And the network’s top-rating shows like Eat Bulaga, Bubble Gang, Mel & Joey, Startalk and Diva continue to gain viewership.

The Reader’s Digest Asia Most Trusted Brands Survey was launched in 1999 has since been conducted annually. Now on its 12th year, the survey is carried out by Synovate in eight countries including China, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand. It was conducted on 7,800 respondents with 1,000 of them coming from the Philippines. (AJPress)
