IT IS not everyday when you get to see local music’s biggest artists like Gary Valenciano, ZsaZsa Padilla, Regine Velasquez and Ogie Alcasid with rising stars Kyla, Jed Madela, Nina, Jay-R, Billy Crawford and Journey lead singer Arnel Pineda together in one concert. For one, these artists belong to rival musical variety shows of duelling networks, and two, there has not been a good enough cause or an event important enough for them to join forces and treat music fans to a great night of good music—free of lingering thoughts of whose show is better than whom or whose album is selling more than whom. Yes, there has not been an opportunity of all of these artists teaming up... until that night of June 30. The event? The inaugural party of President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III.
According to reports, there was an estimated 120,000 people who gathered at the Quezon Memorial Circle to watch the Tagumpay ng Bayan concert, braving a heavy drizzle that night.
The event was attended by the Aquino sisters—Ballsy Aquino-Cruz, Pinky Aquino-Abellada, Viel Aquino-Dee, and Kris Aquino, of course, who showed up with his son Baby James and Joshua. Valenzuela City councilor and girlfriend to the man who holds the highest position in the country Shalani Soledad also joined the festivity.
Kapamilya stars Anne Curtis, Mariel Rodriguez and Vhong Navarro hosted the program highlighted by musical numbers and performances. Other stars who showcased their talents included today’s hottest young stars Gerald Anderson, Jake Cuenca, Kim Chiu, Coco Martin, Erich Gonzales, Matt Evans, Empress Schuck, Andy Eigenmann, Matteo Guidicelli, and Pilipinas Got Talent’s first-ever winner Jovit Baldivino. Pokwang and Pooh delivered a comical music number, Sinta by Aegis that had the crowd laughing to no end.

Of course, the special guest of the night, President Aquino himself, couldn’t let the night go by without him performing as well. And to the crowd’s delight, he did, belting out the Frank Sinatra/Frankie Valli classic Watch What Happens and Freddie Aguilar’s Estudyante Blues where he was joined by his friends and supporters onstage. Though Noynoy’s singing is not likely to be a threat to the likes of Ogie A or Gary V, the crowd still wanted more, proving that this president has won the hearts of every Filipino. And in the end, that is all that really matters. (AJPress with net sources)
