These days, when the prime time slot in Philippine television is ruled by telenovelas, networks put in double efforts to create must-see TV series to ensure a captive audience. ABS-CBN is one network who knows exactly how to pull out all the stops in winning viewers, and their new fantasy-adventure series Noah proves just that.Noah boasts of a well-crafted and original story, an exceptional cast headed by Piolo Pascual, Zaijan Jaranilla (of May Bukas Pa fame) and Kristine Hermosa, a great set location in Subic and highly-acclaimed directors Lino Cayetano and Malu Sevilla. Noah centers on Gabriel, a hardworking cop devoted to his job and his wife and young son Jacob. An unfortunate circumstance causes Gabriel and his wife lose Jacob while on the run from criminals. A few years down the road, Jacob is still nowhere to be found and Gabriel is still on a wild goose chase and finds himself in a majestic forest which serves as home to the Ungtas, a group of ape-like beings, inspired by the Na’vis of Avatar. Here, Gabriel finds a "lost boy" named Eli whom he believes is his son Jacob. Did fate really bring them back together?
This intriguing plot definitely got viewers’ attention as the series gained the number 1 position in its time slot when it premiered last July 12. Co-director Lino says that the chemistry between Piolo and Zaijan is also a big factor for the series to become a long-term ratings winner.
"It was perfectly woven for Piolo and Zaijian. You will feel their chemistry as father and son. Because of this chemistry, my work as director becomes easier dahil hindi na kailangan ipilit," Direk Lino shared.
Piolo tells Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP) that he relates to the character of Gabriel.
"This is closest... I guess, it is closest to my character in terms of working it out with family, working to find the person that you love," he says.
Kristine, on the other hand, is more than happy to find herself working with Piolo again. The last time they worked together was in Komiks presents: Mars Ravelo’s Nasaan Ka Maruja?
"When I learned that I’ll be working with PJ ( (Piolo’s nickname) dito sa Noah, natuwa ako siyempre. Noong sa Maruja kasi special appearance lang talaga siya so hindi kami nagkasama nang matagal."
Noah also stars Cherry Pie Picache, Nonie Buencamino, Jolo Revilla, Ana Capri, Joem Bascon, Melissa Ricks, Renzo Cruz Baron Geisler and Jodi Sta. Maria.The story of Noah zeroes in Gabriel’s (Piolo) search of his missing son, Jacob (Zaijian). His travails lead him into a mysterious island called Noah where he sees his lost son whose name is now Eli. Along the way, Gabriel encounters the Ungtas and Eva (Kristine). (AJPress)
