IT is not every day when two young superstars team up for a comedy movie. That is why when fans learned that one of Philippines’ most lauded actresses was to team up with one of Philippines’ brightest young stars, the excitement was in the air. Now, for the first time on the big screen, Judy Ann Santos and Sarah Geronimo will delight fans everywhere with their movie Hating Kapatid.
Judy Ann and Sarah play Rica and Cecilia, the daughters of Cherry Pie Picache and Al Tantay, who are public school teachers in search of greener pastures. Rica and Cecilia are then left in the care of their Lola Gerty (played by Gina Pareño) when their parents decide to work abroad. The two girls have also been tasked to manage the family business of firecrackers in Bocaue, Bulacan, but much of the responsibility falls on the older one (Rica), who grows very protective of her younger sister (Cecilia), shielding her from possible love interests (one of whom is played by Luis Manzano). The film is a mix of comedy and drama as the sisters try to make it through life’s problems by staying together and keeping each other strong.
Onscreen, anyone could see the two stars play sisters very well, and that is mostly due to the fact that even offscreen while filming, the two stars enjoyed lots of bonding moments. Sarah was more than thrilled to appear alongside Judy Ann and says she is also hoping for the movie’s success as it would prove her versatility as an actress. The pop princess first wowed moviegoers as the sweet-natured Laida Magtalas who charms Miggy Montenegro (John Lloyd Cruz) in the blockbusters A Very Special Love and its sequel You Changed My Life.
"I love the challenge this film gives me," Sarah tells Philstar.com. "It allows me to dabble again in comedy."
Judy Ann, on the other hand, has proven her versatility time and again with critically-acclaimed performances in teleseryes and films, and now she is ready for a new chapter in her life: motherhood.
Judy Ann and husband actor/host Ryan Agoncillo are expecting their first child (a boy) sometime in October. In fact, Hating Kapatid was shot when Judy Ann was in her first trimester but this was no trouble at all for the hard-working actress.
"I’m thankful that I didn’t experience a bit of hardship, even during the first trimester. I didn’t throw up, I didn’t get dizzy, I wasn’t moody at all. I was just a bit sensitive to anything fishy. Sensitive ang taste buds ko sa malalansa pero gusto ko pa rin silang kainin. I’m enjoying this pregnancy so much that I’m looking forward to the next one," she tells Philstar.com.
Hating Kapatid also stars JC de Vera, Tonton Gutierrez, DJ Durano and Vice Ganda. It is directed by Wenn Deramas. (AJPress)
