THE International Emmy Awards is an award-giving body that honors world-class television programs and its talents. But what does it really take for an actor to be at least a "nominee" at the internationally-acclaimed Emmys?
For one, an actor has to have a talent that captivates audiences not only the local viewers, but also the audiences abroad. Also, he has to survive several stages of judging from over 600 jurors of the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (IATAS). Finally,he needs to emerge as one of the final four nominees chosen among other preliminary contenders from 15 countries.
Sid Lucero, or Timothy Mark Eigenmann in real life, has risen above other preliminary contenders as the first Filipino male actor to gain a nomination under the "Best Actor" category in the upcoming 38th International Emmy Awards.
The 29-year-old actor earned the Emmy nomination for his performance as the antagonist Alfred "Red" Ramirez in Dahil May Isang Ikaw (DMII) which is also nominated in this year’s International Emmys under the telenovela category.
Sid shared during an interview with the Manila Bulletin that he actually screamed with glee when he first heard that he was nominated in the prestigiousEmmy Awards.
Gaining international recognition, however, is not a first for Sid as he was also awarded "Best Actor" together with Emilio Garcia in the 49th Thessaloniki International Film Festival in Greece for their performance in Selda (international title: The Inmate) in 2008. Selda also gained Sid another Best Actor award at the 31st Gawad Urian.
In this year’s International Emmy Awards, Sid will be up against Bob Hoskins of United Kingdom (The Street), Sebastian Koch of Germany (Sea Wolf), and Leonard Sbaraglia of Argentina (Epitafios).
Sid also disclosed during the Manila Bulletin interview that being considered as nominee is "already an honor in itself." Humble despite the international recognition and being up against a roster of famous actors around the world, Sid remains a fan and is still dazed when he thinks of meeting his idols who are also his competition.
"I just wanna shake his [Bob Hoskins] hands and Helena Bonham Carter. Oh my God. Okay na ako doon (That would be okay for me). Hi, hello, bye," said the actor in an interview with ABS-CBN.
