Mara Clara promo posterIN celebration of bringing quality soap operas for 60 years to Philippine television, ABS-CBN believes that now is the perfect time to present Mara Clara once again to the generation of today.

Considered as one of the most "legendary" soap operas to ever hit Philippine TV, the Mara Clara remake premiered last October 25 with Kathryn Bernardo playing Judy Ann Santos’s role as the new Mara and Julia Montes playing Gladys Reyes’s role as the new Clara.

Kathryn and Julia both came from the kid comedy show Goin’ Bulilit. Kathryn’s talent in acting was recognized when she played as the young Gretchen Barreto (Victoria) in the drama series Magkaribal; while Julia’s flair for acting was discovered in her perfomances in Komiks presents Mars Ravelo’s Nasaan Ka Maruja? and Maalaala Mo Kaya.

The director of the Mara Clara remake, Jerome Pobocan, intends to present the teleserye with a twist according to the interest of today’s generation. And although the story may be presented differently, Pobocan assured the loyal supporters of the original Mara Clara that the plot of the story will remain untouched.

Mara Clara tells the story of two young girls raised in two different worlds—Mara, growing up from a poor family and Clara growing up pampered with wealth, their true identities later on revealed to be the opposites of who they thought they were.

For Kathryn, playing the role of the new Mara became a challenge knowing that the teleserye has run for a very long time and has made a mark in the hearts of many Filipino viewers.

"Nakaka-pressure po talaga [ang role ni Mara] (I really felt pressured [doing the role of Mara]," said Kathryn in an interview with The Buzz. "Five years po nag-air ang Mara Clara noon, parang ganoon [katagal] in-accept ng tao kaya kailangan po talaga naming galingan ang bawat scene (Mara Clara has aired for five years, that’s [how long] the people supported it so we have to do our best in every scene)."

Kathryn also said during her contract signing with ABS-CBN that she considers Judy Ann as her idol when it comes to acting. She, however, only managed to watch Mara Clara the movie (the first teleserye of ABS-CBN to be ever made into a film by Star Cinema).

Overwhelmed with how big of a project Mara Clara is, Kathryn also confessed in an interview with SNN that she actually was not able to sleep in the eve of their first taping because she was nervous.
