Stronger and wiser than ever, Kris Aquino has decided to come back to the big screen with a stronger dedication to acting.
The country’s one and only Queen of Media’s return to theaters this December is via the horror suspense movie, Dalaw. The film is directed by Jerry Lopez Sineneng and Dondon Santos and is also Star Cinema’s official entry to the 2010 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF).
Dalaw is expected to be another blockbuster hit after previous success horror flicks that Aquino has made like Sukob and Feng Shui.
Since the film is yet to be completed, Kris can only share a few things about Dalaw. Whenever she goes on location, the actress posts updates on her Twitter account about the progress of the movie. This gives the interested public a hint of what her character will be like.
“A woman being framed for the murders she didn’t commit.”
“A woman fighting for the love & life of her child” are just a few of her tweets.
Kris also shared during one of her interviews that Diether Ocampo will be playing her “evil” husband. “But he’s not really evil. Basta, surprise!” she said.
Being a daughter to martyred senator Benigno Aquino Jr., and former Philippine President Corazon Aquino and a younger sister to the current president of the country, Benigno Aquino III, controversies and issues are not new to Kris.
Her recent filing of annulment with former husband, Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) player James Yap has caused her to once again be in the limelight. Similarly, it has forced her to leave her shows like The Buzz and Showbiz News Ngayon (SNN), where she was a regular host.
With her movie comeback, Kris, said that she is more open to do more daring roles now—like the controversial wedding kissing scene, which, according to the actress took 15 hours to shoot but will only be seen three minutes in the movie.
As an actress, Kris says during the interview that she is not holding back anymore. This is because she does not have to worry now if her role would be affecting her relationship with her partner. The actress also said she talked about the issue with her leading man Diether, and both agreed that roles - especially that of husband and wife are better portrayed if the actors are not engaged in a real-life relationship.
Diether, for his part, said in the same interview that although he and Kris knew each other for a long time, this is the first time they will be working together. The actor said that he felt it became a challenge for Kris at first because they did not go to any acting workshops and were instead, immediately sent on location to shoot the film.
“I was assuming mahihirapan kami (we would have a hard time [shooting the film]), pero (but) with her, it was instant chemistry, okay naman, we’re both happy it turned out well,” Diether added.
Kris also shared that Diether used to distance himself from her after takes, afraid that he might start up rumors that would romantically link him to her.
In his defense, Diether explained that he actually found it hard to act around Kris knowing her pending annulment case with her former husband. He also said that despite his keeping a fair distance from the actress, he knows that the actress knows him well. He also said in a separate interview that she enjoys working with the actress because “there’s no dull moment with Kris.”
Also shooting with Kris and Diether is award-winning actress Alessandra de Rossi, singer Karylle, Ina Feleo, Susan Africa, Gina Pareño, Maliksi Morales, Bernard Palanca, Lui Villaluz, Precious Lara Quigaman, and Empress Schuck.
Nervous and at the same time thrilled, Kris shared during the SNN interview that she feels privileged to be a part of the MMFF.
“Excited po kaming lahat, may lalim talaga ‘yong kwento (We are all excited [for the movie] because there is depth in the story). At the heart of it all, kwento pa rin [ito] tungkol sa pamilya at kung ano ang handa mong ibigay para sa taong minamahal mo at kung paano mo kailangan pagbayaran ang mga dating kasalanan mo (the story still revolves around family and what you can give to the people you love at how you need to pay for the wrong things you have done).”
