To celebrate her 30 years in show business, the Philippine’s one and only “Pop Diva,” Kuh Ledesma will be casting love spells in February of 2011 as she performs The Greatest Love Songs of our Time with the “Hitmakers,” Rico J. Puno, Rey Valera, Nonoy Zuniga, and Marco Sison.

Produced by Viva Production in partnership with Events Media, The Greatest Love Songs of our Time concert will not only feature popular and timeless love songs that have captured the hearts of the Filipino audience over the years, butt will also mirror Kuh’s successful journey as a performer for the past 30 years.

A native of Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, Kuh is a Pinoy pop and jazz singer who became popular for her sultry singing voice.  Her singing career started when she joined a college band called the Lastiko in Bacolod.  She later on went to Manila with her Lastiko band mates and reinvented under the band name Music and Magic where she was discovered.  She then decided to go solo and top billed a pop ballet entitled Rama Hari by Alice Reyes.

Since her hit song Dito Ba? in 1980, Kuh has proven to be consistent on being on top of her game not only as a singer, but also as an endorser, an actress, and a businesswoman. With over 300 concerts to her name, she has also shared the stage with world-class artists such as Olivia Newton-John, John Denver; and worked with actors like Mel Gibson and Sigourney Weaver, to name a few.

During the Greatest Love Songs of our Time press conference last Dec. 13, Kuh revealed that it is actually the first time for her and the Hitmakers to share the stage.

Formed by Viva Films Executive Vic del Rosario, the Hitmakers, composed of Nonoy Zuñiga, Rey Valera, Marco Sison, and Rico J. Puno live up to their group name as known veteran crooners of the local music industry with their respective timeless hits.

Among the most remarkable songs of the Hitmakers that can still be heard on local radio stations at present are Valera’s Kamusta Ka, Sison’s My Love Will See You Through, Zuniga’s I’ll Never Say Goodbye, and Puno’s May Bukas Pa.

With the Valentine season only a couple of months away, Kuh believes that it will be the perfect time to serenade the audience with “duets” from each Hitmaker.

“I’ll be doing duets with each one of them. Kung ano ‘yong hit nila, I will combine it with mine,” added the Pop Diva.  Likewise, the candid Hitmakers said that they were as excited as Kuh to do the concert. Marco Sison even managed to make Kuh and the press people laugh by joking that he considers the concert to be a “competition” among The Hitmakers on who will win Kuh’s heart via a serenade. “Si Ms. Kuh naman ay single, so hindi naman masama,” he added.

Rico, known to be the group’s casanova, is also known for his green jokes during performances. Thus, making the press wonder if it would pass Kuh’s conservative taste.

“Sa akin hindi pwede eh (It is not acceptable for me). Actually pwede ka maging berde [sa jokes] na hindi berde, hindi masyado, light green lang (You can actually go with green jokes as long as it’s done with subtlety)... If you want to be funny and still be acceptable to all audiences, kailangan maging smart ka lang eh in being funny (you need to be smart in being funny), it doesn’t have to be very rasp or hoarse,” Kuh said.

Meanwhile, Nonoy Zuñiga shared that the concert is something to look forward to not only because it will be the first time that the Hitmakers will be performing with the Pop Diva, but also because it will be a combination of serious songs, novelty songs with a touch of comedy, with “beautiful and romantic songs” as the concert’s focus.

Kuh revealed that she plans to do a version of the concert in the United States for her kababayans who love hearing duets after their show in February 12-13 at the PICC Plenary Hall.

Kuh also plans to release a commemorative DVD that highlights the best parts of her 30 years in show business.
