‘Tis the season to be married for Ogie and Regine

Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez welcomes the new year with a smile as she finally tied the knot with Ogie Alcasid last Dec. 22 at the at the Terrazas de Punta Fuego beach Resort in Nasugbu, Batangas.

In a private wedding closed to the media, GMANews.TV exclusively reported that a teary-eyed Regine walked down the aisle in a red Monique Lhuiller gown uniquely paired with rider boots the way the bride wanted it.

Ogie, on the other hand, was moved to tears as he was exchanging vows with his Regine.  The happy groom then vowed to Regine’s parents after saying that he will take care of the latters’ daughter from that day “until forever.”

Aside from the rider boots, the much awaited ceremony was everything but traditional. Singer-actress Regine told the Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP) during an interview prior to the big day that she wanted her wedding to be different from what she and Ogie usually portray in wedding scenes.

Both Regine and Ogie decided to live together before they got married, so instead of white, Regine preferred to wear a gown of a different color.

Known to have her own way of doing things when it comes to style, Regine made it particular that she doesn’t want the traditional picture taking at the altar with the guest after the wedding ceremony, saying that two hours of picture taking can “bore” their guests.

“So, sabi ko (I told them), why don’t we do that maybe two days before the wedding? Let’s do a pictorial already of everybody—yung family, groomsmen, everybody. Yung mga hindi maka-attend, yun na lang yung kukunan natin ng pictures (Let’s take pictures of those who cannot attend instead),” Regine said.

The guests were also dressed in pastel colors to coordinate with the violet, pink, and white themed venue.

Considered to be “the wedding of the year,” the Velasquez-Alcasid wedding was attended by their close family and friends that included big names from the different industries.

Part of the entourage was President Benigno “Nonoy” Aquino, Janno Gibbs, Michael V. Some of the principal sponsors were Jose Mari Chan, Dr. Vicky Belo, the Megastar Sharon Cuneta, Felipe Gozon, Michel Lhuillier, Amparito Lhuiller, German “Kuya Germs” Moreno, Nanette Inventor, Viva boss Vic del Rosario, Regal Films’ Lily Monteverde and business tycoon Manny Pangilinan.

The big bosses of GMA-7, Atty. Felipe Gozon, Wilma Galvante, Lilybeth Rasonable, Darling de Jesus, and Redgie Magno were also present, as well as Bench owner Ben Chan.

As expected, the event was also star-studded with local celebrities that included Dennis Trillo, Kuh Ledesma with her daughter Isabella, the Guttierezes, Eddie, Annabelle, Ruffa and Richard, and many others who witnessed Regine and Ogie exchange vows in front of an altar that overlooks the view of a mountain beneath the clear blue sky.

Couples who attended the event included Richard Gomez and wife Cong. Lucy Torres; Dingdong Dantes and girlfriend Marian Rivera; Robert Chien with wife Leah Salonga, who also sang in the wedding.

Of course, Ogie’s former wife Michelle Van Eimeren was present with their kids Leila and Sarah. Michelle’s husband, Mark Morrow was also there during the ceremony as candle bearer together.  The amazing friendship that Ogie and Regine have formed with Michelle and his husband showed when Michelle volunteered to be the wedding’s flower arranger as well.

During Ogie’s official wedding announcement last August 8 of this year in the entertainment program Party Pilipinas, Ogie disclosed to the public that his petition for annulment filed last June 21 of this year to Michelle has been granted and that he can finally marry Regine before 2010 ends.

According to Regine, it was Ogie’s decision to be married in December because aside from the fact that it will be the Christmas vacation of Ogie’s kids in the country, he also finds the month of December to have a special feeling “of something... because it’s closer to Christmas.”

The newlyweds, Regine and Ogie will postpone their honeymoon and make the most out of the holidays by spending it with their friends and family that also includes spending time with Michelle’s and their kids as well.

After celebrating Christmas with their family, Alcasid divulged in an interview with ABS-CBN that he plans to take Regine to Europe “in a romantic place in Italy called Positano.”
