Jericho “Echo” Rosales’s captivating smile, boy-next-door looks, and exceptional skill in acting has made him one of the premiere actors of his generation, not only in the Philippines, internationally too.

Celebrating more than a decade in the Philippine entertainment industry, Jericho established himself as a very successful actor with his breakthrough performances in the drama series Pangako Sa’Yo, Sana’y Wala Nang Wakas, and Kahit Isang Saglit, that also gained audiences in Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, China, Singapore, and Several African nations.

His effectiveness as an actor transcended to the big screen with his critically-acclaimed performances in Tanging Yaman, Bagong Bwan, Santa Santita, Nasaan Ka Man, and his most recent films, Baler, which gained him best actor by the 11th Gawad Pasado and the 25th PMPC Star Awards, and Pacquiao: The Movie.

This time, Echo takes his career up a notch as he ventures into an international movie scene for the first time via Subject: I Love U, opposite Step Up 2 star, Briana Evigan.

Set to premiere in Los Angeles, California at the end of April, Subject: I Love U is an action-packed romantic drama based on how the “I Love You” virus that came about in 2000. The virus, which originated in the Philippines, was considered as the most destructive of its kind when it shut down computer systems around the globe, including systems at the Pentagon, Parliament, and the CIA. In this film, Jericho plays the role of Victor, the young man who is willing to risk anything—even if it meant involving himself in an international criminal investigation, just to deliver his message to the only woman he has ever loved.

Believing that talent is a gift that needed to be shared with others, Echo said in an interview with Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP) that he hopes to reach a wider audience with his performance in Subject: I Love U. He also said that if ever more international projects come after this movie, he hopes to serve as an instrument that will make the world see the pool of talents waiting to be discovered in the Philippines as well.

Echo further stated in an interview  that he finds purpose in making movies that matters because it is through portraying remarkable characters that he is able to inspire people and even make a difference in their lives.

“The best thing for me is when someone texts me or calls me, or when I found out that a person gets inspired because of my job,” he quipped.

Like his fans, Jericho also has a source of inspiration—his son, Santino, who he described  as his “adventure partner” in sports, skateboarding, concerts, watching TV, and even playing Legos.

During his free time, Echo shared that he is also fond of riding the waves; travelling all over the country to find an ideal surfing beach that can also be promoted as a tourist spot. He shared in a separate interview that he and his group are also promoting the environmental awareness to protect the reefs and the ocean.

An adventure seeker, Echo proved to be a fearless and versatile performer that follows his passion with his swift shift to the music scene—an action that sent some critics’ eyebrows to rise.

Jericho, however, said that he “believes it will take some time before people finally accept” his decision to enter the music scene because fans don’t usually see him sing, but act. He also said during a press conference that his “vacation” from acting made him realize that the opinion of his fans matter; that is why when he learned that his fans prefer him to act for now, he just went on with the flow and “never regret it.”

As Echo went back to acting, he said that he also plans to go to New York to study filmmaking before this year ends while his taped shows are being aired in the Philippines. Jericho is currently seen in the adaptation of the hit Koreanovela Green Rose, one of ABS-CBN’s primetime series, which also stars Anne Curtis and Jake Cuenca. He believes that this is the time to express the country’s solidarity to Japan, “ which have been so generous in our times of crises and disasters.”

Japan was committed to show its remorse over what transpired during WWII and made sure that their heartfelt apologies were felt by the Filipino people.  A model of generosity despite its struggle over what had been lost, Japan still managed to gain something along the way—a strengthened unity and peace with other nations it was once at war with.
