With only a suitcase and few dollars in hand, Anolia “Leah” Orfrecio Facun came to the United States.  Although trained as a nurse in the Philippines, starting over in a new country with no home to go to made it harder to see the possibilities.

But Facun’s passion for teaching, wellness and preventive health, coupled with her determination to succeed, led her to several successful entrepreneurships.  And just last November, her book, Yes!  The Secrets Work!, reached Amazon’s bestseller list on three non-fiction categories, in less than three months after its release.

Yes!  The Secrets Work! is more than your average motivational-inspirational book.  It is actually a sharing of Leah’s experiences – both professionally and personally – that could help anyone achieve their goals, especially in these trying times.

“It is very relevant, it can help a lot of people,” said Facun and added, “The main reason I wrote it actually is to be of help to our people and to encourage them during these tough times.”

The book according to Facun, will help one discover life-changing secrets and how these can work.  It is, she says, an in-depth understanding of the six areas of one’s life which can help achieve total wellness to be able to stay in the “healthy zone.”

In spite of the success of her book, Facun remains grounded.  When asked if she has ever seen herself as a writer, she laughingly said, “No…never.  I’m not a writer.  Qualification-wise, I would not imagine myself writing a book.  The only reason I wrote the book was because again, it’s part of me.  It’s a part of me who wants to help people.  That’s been my life – to help people. I’ve been always looking for means and resources to do that and since for over 25 years.”

She also explained that the thought that someday she’ll be gone from this world, not being able to share these secrets would be such a waste.

“The need is out there, people will not be able to spend or afford that kind of money,” she said and added, “This is my gift to humanity to the people for $20 or less than that, they can get this information, something that I have also learned these years.”

A part of this information, of course, comes from Facun’s health and nursing background.  “I discovered over the years, that unless you go to medical or nursing schools, you don’t get that information,” she said and explained,   “‘Yung mga information, I backed it up with most of my personal experiences.”

Another book is in the works, several actually, around January-February, according to Facun.  Still, she does not this shift from being a nurse to a bestseller author is a career.  “It’s not just a career for me, of course, we call it a career, but all my life I just want to do the will of God, even when I was very young.  I eventually became a nurse and came to America.  I later on asked why I went into business.  I was planning to become a missionary nurse.  But God has his plans.”

Facun is also inviting people to watch out for her special workshop on December 30, just before she starts her national book tour.  The workshop will help them plan for 2009 on how to be happy, healthy and prosperous.  She is also open to help non-profit groups and organizations, and efforts to benefit local and international non-profit projects to feed the children and the poor, build self-sustaining communities, health and medical missions, local food pantries, and other efforts to better our communities.
