Chan courts Pinoy vote for Broadmoor Police Commission

Chinese-American Hanley Chan is one of the candidates vying for a seat in the Broadmoor Police Commission in the coming Nov. 3 elections.

Born and raised in San Francisco, Officer Chan, who now resides in the Broadmoor Protection District, is excited at the prospect of becoming the first Asian and minority to serve on the commission if he gets elected to the post.

15th UPAAA General Assembly and Convention in Washington, DC

UPAAA- University of the Philippines Alumni Association in America held its 15th National convention at JW Marriott Hotel in Washington, DC. The three-day event from Sept 4-6, 2009 was graced by the first woman and 19th President of the University of the Philippines Emerlinda  R. Roman.  Together with President Emer Roman, the UPAAA President Dr. Francis Sy graciously welcomed the delegates from all over the states and other countries who participated the convention during the Fellowship Night- “Gabi ng Katuwaan at Pabidahan.” Chapter presentations were being performed with much fun and reminiscent of  the “UP days.”  The UPAA-NY chapter bagged three prizes namely Most Meaningful, Most Rehearsed and Most Entertaining awards with Noel Gamboa, composer of  Pinoy linedancing songs and Silver Jubilarian leading the group.

PACCAL Awards Ceremony

FELICITATIONS and high-spirited glee reigned supreme in the recently celebrated PACCAL’s ((Pan American Concerned Citizens Action League) 17th Anniversary Dinner Gala and Awards Ceremony held at the Holiday Inn Hotel along Frontage Road in Newark, New Jersey last Sunday, October 11, 2009, that distinctly honored nine leaders of the Fil-Am community for their most outstanding accomplishments in their respective fields with the Hon. Consul Gen. Cecile B. Rebong as guest speaker.

In line with PACCAL’s program of promoting family culture and values, the husband and wife tandem of Ruben and Maripi Tanteo was unanimously chosen by the Awards Committee to receive the “Parents of the Year” award for their worth-emulating ways.

PACCAL stages ‘Sunrise, Sunset: Looking for William’

THE Pan American Concerned Citizen’s Action League, Inc. (PACCAL) is staging the play Looking for William on Saturday, November 7 2009 at 2pm at the Five Corners Library Auditorium, 678 Newark Ave., Jersey City 07306. The theater event is in line with PACCAL’s “Artists-in-Residence” Project, which is carried out through the 2009 Local Arts Program (LAP) Grant, New Jersey State Council on the Arts (NJSCA), Department of State, a partner of the National Endowment for the Arts administered by the Hudson County Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs (HCOCHA).
