Hands tied by a Philippine law, Lbc can no longer accept donations of used clothing for Ondoy victims

By virtue of Republic Act (RA) 4653, which was passed in 1966, LBC Mundial Corporation (LBC USA) can no longer accept donations of used clothing in behalf of the victims of Typhoon Ondoy (international name: Ketsana) beginning October 8.

LBC was informed of this directive from the Philippine government only last October 7 at a community meeting at the Philippine Consulate General (PCG) in San Francisco.

The Davaoeños of California will celebrate its 21st Anniversary on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2009 at Joe Ferneke’s Hall, 781 Tennis Drive (Orange Park, behind simming pool), South San Francisco, CA.

Typhoon “Pepeng” has submerged most of our beloved province, Pangasinan, and more than two million people have been affected by the flooding, which was worsened by the discharge of excess water from dams already brimming from recent heavy rains.

Louisian Alumni mini reunion set for October 24

The St. Louis University (Baguio City) Alumni & Friends will hold a mini- reunion on Saturday, Oct. 24 from  6:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m.  at  the Simon’s Banquet Center dubbed “Blue Jeans Rock & Roll” Dinner Dance.

According to organizers, this is a prelude to the 2010 Grand Reunion which will take place at the Flamingo Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas on May 29, 2010.

HeartWalk against heart disease and stroke

More than 9,000 walkers from all over Los Angeles came together to help in the fight against heart disease and stroke at the American Heart Association’s 19th Annual Start! Los Angeles Heart Walk at the Rose Bowl on Saturday, Oct. 3. The walkers included the Provisor family, headed by husband and wife team, Bruce and Arlene, and their two-year-old daughter Annabelle. Annabelle was born with a heart defect called transposition of the arteries. She was only one month old when she had open-heart surgery to fix her heart. Earlier this year, in February, the toddler had a second corrective surgery. The Provisor family, accompanied this year by Bruce’s mother, Pantip, and nephew, Kyree, has been participating in the Heart Walk since 2007 in honor of their little survivor, Annabelle.
