5 Pinoy designers exhibit in New York

FIVE young Filipino designers will show their creations in a two-week exhibit, “Manila/New York: Fashion Directions,” organized by Rene M. Tiongco at the Philippine Center, Fifth Avenue, New York City, September 28-October 9.

Contemporary designs using Philippine fabrics like jusi, sinamay, piña, abaca, hablon, and abel Iloco will be showcased. Noted designer Edgar Allan will exhibit a modern wedding gown in crushed jusi.

Asian Pacific AIDS Intervention Team celebrates 10 years of service in Orange County

WESTMINSTER, CA—The Asian Pacific AIDS Intervention Team, Southern California’s largest provider of HIV/AIDS services to Asian and Pacific Islanders, celebrated its 10-year anniversary serving Orange County. . APAIT-OC acknowledged the need for culturally-sensitive programs, especially in the area of health for Asian and Pacific Islanders (API).  APIs is a growing community in greater Orange County.  

It would be incorrect to say APAIT-OC works alone.  It is with the assistance of others that make services possible.  For this reason, APAIT-OC recognized various individuals and organizations for their commitment.

The Philippine Madrigal Singers embark on their US goodwill concert tour

LAST July 27, 2009, the distinction of UNESCO Artist for Peace was given to the Philippine Madrigal Singers in recognition of their efforts to promote dialogue and understanding among peoples in Southeast Asia and their contribution to extend UNESCO’s message of peace and tolerance.

Named for two years, the Philippine Madrigal Singers are expected to bring their support to UNESCO programs on cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue.  Koïchiro Matsuura, the Director-General of UNESCO, designated the Philippine Madrigal Singers as UNESCO Artist for Peace at a ceremony just before the group’s concert at the UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.  The Philippine Madrigal Singers’ projects will include a series of concerts for Peace, a Sing for Peace festival and various choral singing classes, workshops and educational activities.

Operation Eyesight 2010

THE General de Jesus Academy, high school class of 1958 and the Isidorian group from San Isidro Nueva Ecija, will get together to launch Operation Eyesight 2010. The main goal is to provide reading glasses to our indigent kababayans and give them a free medical check-up. Pot-luck will be in Acampo, CA on Oct. 8, 2009
