Fil-Am Mason invitational shooting tournament

NORCO Running Gun Club presents the Invitational Shootfest for Fil-Am Masons of Southern California to be held on September 19 at Mike Raahauge’s Shooting Complex, 14995 River Road, Corona CA 92880.

This exciting event will incite harmony and fellowship not only amongst Fil-Am masons but also to all Fil-Ams in an exciting environment of competitive sport of pistol shooting. Like in any sporting event, this tournament is of great importance to the Filipino-American community as this fosters esprit de corps, camaraderie, goodwill, and unity among our people in the Southland and beyond. Entry fee is pegged at $33 covering range fees. This event is not a fundraiser.

Panorama City Neighborhood Council against medical marijuana stores

PANORAMA CITY – During a public meeting called on Tuesday, September 8, the Commerce Committee of the Panorama City Neighborhood Council voted to recommend to the Los Angeles City Council disapproving the request of medical marijuana providers to win full licensing approval and to open more medical marijuana stores in this community.

The commerce committee, chaired by Errol Santos, the only Fil-Am member of the Neighborhood Council, voted unanimously to recommend disapproving the medical marijuana providers’ request to get of their hardship status to fully licensed dispensary status. The vote was made after more than twenty Panorama city residents, police officers, dispensary owners and their legal counsel, voiced their opinions during a public meeting held at the Goldilocks Restaurant located inside the Island Pacific Supermarket in this community.

2009 “Lakad Tulong” Project Launched

NEW YORK - A 3-mile walkathon fund-raising event billed as 2009 “LAKAD TULONG” was launched by the Filipino-American Community of the Northeastern Region in partnership with the Philippine Consulate General of New York.

The event, as announced by coordinator Nelsie T. Parrado and Consul General Cecilia B. Rebong , will support two major projects, namely, the “Handang Tumulong” Disaster Relief Fund, and the much-anticipated Census 2010. The first project is a readiness project to create a seed fund for the victims of recurrent calamities in the Philippines, while the second is to create awareness and encourage Filipinos to be counted in the upcoming 2010 Census of the United States.
