The Filipino Cursillos in Christianity of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles is in full swing with the return to the stage of "Kalbaryo" for 2010. This year’s offering will still feature Christ’s Passion as in five previous successive years; and this time veteran cultural artist/choreographer Alma Sianson-Oesche who choreographed and trained dancers for “Sulyap, Muli: Kasaysayan ng Lahi” in 2008, will again showcase her talent and ability to bring out the performer in every volunteer. Highlights of the 2010 offering will be the vocal talents of Lorna Cortez (Sulyap, 2005, Kalbaryo 2005-07) as Mary Magdalene and, in the role of the Virgin Mary, Sherry Cunanan, the vibrant young cantor who stole the hearts of attendees at the 4th World Ultreya (a once-in-ten-years reunion of Cursillistas worldwide) in Anaheim last August.
Ray Ramirez, for the fifth time, will be directing the whole production assisted by Gerry and Tess Torres. Kalbaryo’s first director, Ted Miranda, succumbed to colon cancer in December of 2003. Billy Ricafort will, again, direct the music; Vina Dungo and Alice Ricafort will handle marketing and promo while Bong Dungo and Danny Paulo are in charge of technical/multi media matters. Lay Director Manolo Robles, appearing as Pontius Pilate, will oversee the whole production with the help of former Lay Director Ron Parcon and scores of volunteer Cursillistas and friends as actors, dancers, musicians, chorale members, costume designers, make-up artists and stage help.
