Los Angeles Archdiocese celebrates Festival of Cultures

The Archdiocese of Los Angeles is the largest and most culturally diverse archdiocese in the country. Parishes throughout the Archdiocese reflect this multi-cultural character and recognize diversity as a constitutive part of the present day church in America. This reality is strongly and concretely manifested in the congregations that gather during Sunday and weekday Masses. However, it also presents many challenges in building communities among peoples of varying cultural heritages.

PCNCC Committee to hold public forum on Medical Marijuana Stores

PANORAMA CITY, CA -- The Panorama City Neighborhood Council Commerce Committee announced a public meeting to consider the proliferation of medical marijuana stores.  The meeting will be held at 6pm on Tuesday, September 8, 2009, in the Kababayan Hall at Island Pacific Supermarket, 8340 Van Nuys Boulevard Unit A, Panorama City, CA  91402.  The market is located in the shopping center north of the Panorama City Branch Public Library.

St. Philomena Parish Community to honor Cory Aquino

CARSON - A memorial mass celebrating the 40th day of the death of Philippine President Cory Aquino will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 9, 2009 at 8 pm at St. Philomena Church, 21900 S. Main St., Los Angeles, Ca 90745.

Alex Cainglet, parish community leader at St. Philomena Church said that the mass will follow the regular Wednesday novena for the Mother of Perpetual Help.

The American Red Cross is offering shelters and help to people forced from their homes by the California wildfires.

With changes occurring quickly with the fast-moving fires, the Red Cross urges everyone to follow evacuation orders.

Truth selects crew members for 10th Annual National Summer Tours

– truth, the national youth smoking prevention campaign from the American Legacy Foundation, recently selected 14 young adults from across the country to serve as crew members for its annual summer tour. More than 1,400 young people submitted applications for a spot on the tour and a chance to become involved in the life-saving cause of tobacco-use prevention. The 14 selected crew members, two of which are Asian American, represent a cross-section of the types of youth that the truth® tour will encounter as it travels the country from late June to late August.
