THE Philippine Medical Alumni Association of Southern California will present a spectacular talent showcase entitled Nostalgia at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Orange County on July 25, 2009 at 6:30pm. Medical alumni performers from the medical schools of CIM, FEU, MCU, SWU, UE, UP, and UST have selected their respective talented members to present an enjoyable and memorable variety of songs and dances that evening. They are currently rehearsing with their choreographers and practicing diligently to perfect their presentations. This InterUniversity Medical Alumni Showcase will offer both fun and excitement to charitable donors while helping the needy.
Proceeds of this fundraiser will go towards the Scholarship Program for deserving students in medical schools of the Philippines or in the United States. It complements efforts by PMASC and affiliated medical alumni groups (i.e., UST, UP, UE, FEU, MCU, CIM, SWU, etc.) who also are co-sponsors. Ticket donations to this semi-formal affair are $90 per person with dinner at 7 pm, and a no-host bar at 6 pm.
Bert Nievera, a world class performer currently in Las Vegas will host the show. Mr. Joel Baretto, CFP, a well-known financial analyst will direct the show. This special event promises to be one of the finest presentations by PMASC and is expected to attract a a huge crowd. Anybody interested to attend the event, please call Noli R. Zosa, MD at (562) 698-0161, Wilson Morales, MD at (562) 634-1049, or Ed Banez, MD at (323)254-6754.
Jacqueline Greene is the immediate past recipient of the scholarship. A Philippine native, she is currently attending medical school at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) and graduated from Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a degree in Bio-Engineering.
PMASC is a non-profit 501-C-3 organization of physicians of Filipino heritage and affinity, in Southern California, committed to serve the humanitarian, economic, educational, and scientific needs of its members and the community. Over a year ago, Philippine medical physicians had been denigrated and maligned with statements in the media, specifically in an episode of “Desperate Housewives”. PMASC assumed a leadership position in this fight and battled the denizens of television network programming. The statement mentioned in the episode is contrary to the fact that Fil-Am physicians are as excellent as anybody in the world. The upcoming student recipient of the scholarship will continue to live up to the strong and vibrant tradition of upstanding, well-qualified Filipino physicians providing excellent medical care throughout the United States and the world. n
