Barely a week after taking their oath, new officers of the Philippine Medical Association of Nevada (PMA-NV) went straight to work during a free immunization program last August 8 in Las Vegas.
The PMA volunteered in the first of a series of free health screening and immunization programs offered by the Southern Nevada Immunization Coalition and Wal-mart.
“We volunteered to join this program for immunization for kids, and for our kababayan,” Dr. Teresita Melocoton PMA-NV treasurer said. She is also a pediatrician at Valley Pediatrics Specialty Center.
The Coalition organizes the annual event where they get volunteers, partners and donors, executive director Pam Beal said. This year’s donor is Wal-mart, while Filipino physicians who are PMA-NV members are among the volunteers.
“Every year we bring together different services that would help kids like immunizations and health screenings at no cost to the community,” she said during the event held at Wal-Mart on Charleston and Decatur Blvd.
PMA-NV offers volunteer medical services to various communities in Las Vegas . Its core mission is to promote excellence in medicine towards the betterment of public health of the Filipino community in Nevada.
