SHERMAN OAKS, CA – The Filipino-American Chamber of Commerce of the San Fernando Valley (FACC-SFV) and the Beverly Garland Holiday Inn are co- hosting the 2nd Annual Valley Business, Education, and Career Expo on Sunday, August 30th 2009. The event will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the Beverly Garland Holiday Inn in North Hollywood, and will continue until 4:00 p.m.
Admission is FREE and open to the public. Through the Expo, FACC-SFV strives to promote Filipino-American Business and Entrepreneurship, to provide connections for employers and potential new hires, and to advance youth empowerment and higher education. The Expo will feature keynote speaker Brian Safdari from College Planning Experts Inc. who will talk about Entrepreneurship, finding one’s Passion, planning for college and obtaining the required education to further one’s career. The Expo will also feature performers: Cal State Fullerton’s Pilipino American Student Association (PASA) will be presenting Philippine dances, Bishop Alemany High School’s Hip Hop Club will be there to dazzle the crowd, and Aloha Hula Dance Studio from Granada Hills will showcase Polynesian Dance, to name a few. Major businesses, potential employers, career and education experts have been invited and many have confirmed. The event will culminate with a Panel Discussion featuring Audrey Madrigal, Program Manager of the Valley Economic Development Center (VEDC) and Archiemedes Gomez, Philippine International Trade Representative, among others.
And in an effort to serve our community, the Filipino American Chamber of Commerce, SFV highly supports the outreach program of Philippine Consulate’s Overseas Absentee Voters (OAV). Registration will be available during the Business Expo. The cost is FREE and all you need is to bring your Philippine Passport. Officials such as Consul Officer Mike Martinez and other Consul Staff members will be present to help assist our Filipino community in the OAV registration. Also, the honorable Consul General Mary Jo Aragon will graciously welcome and open the ceremony for the Business Expo event.
The Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles appeals to all citizens of the Philippines abroad not otherwise disqualified by law, who are at least eighteen (18) years of age on the day of the election and who wish to vote for President, Vice-President, Senators and Party List Representatives for purposes of the 10 May 2010 National Elections must file applications for registration/ certification as overseas absentee voters until 31 August 2009. The voting period will be from 10 April 2010, 9:00 a.m. (Philippine time), or 9 April 2010, 5:00 p.m. (LA time), until 10 May 2010, 3:00 pm (Philippine time), or 9 May 2010, 11:00 p.m. (LA time).
