PCNCC Committee to hold public forum on Medical Marijuana Stores

PANORAMA CITY, CA -- The Panorama City Neighborhood Council Commerce Committee announced a public meeting to consider the proliferation of medical marijuana stores.  The meeting will be held at 6pm on Tuesday, September 8, 2009, in the Kababayan Hall at Island Pacific Supermarket, 8340 Van Nuys Boulevard Unit A, Panorama City, CA  91402.  The market is located in the shopping center north of the Panorama City Branch Public Library.

Commerce Committee Chair and PCNC board member Errol Santos (818) 892‑0310 said that medical marijuana stores are currently unregulated, and many are operating under "hardship exemptions" from a city moratorium on new stores of this type.  Of particular concern is Panorama Providers, 13807 Roscoe Boulevard, Panorama City, CA  91402, which recently opened within 1056 feet of Saint Genevieve High School.  There is also a cluster of three medical marijuana stores on Woodman Avenue, a short distance to the north.

The purpose of the meeting is to inform the public of the current state of regulation for medical marijuana stores, to accept public comment on the issue, and to make a recommendation for action by the PCNC Board of Directors.  The Los Angeles City Council's Planning and Land Use Management Committee is currently reviewing all of the "hardship exemptions" that have been filed.  To date, it has not supported any of them.  Panorama City Neighborhood Council may want to request that the hardship exemptions for stores in its area be considered on a priority basis, supporting either approval or denial.
