5 Pinoy designers exhibit in New York

FIVE young Filipino designers will show their creations in a two-week exhibit, “Manila/New York: Fashion Directions,” organized by Rene M. Tiongco at the Philippine Center, Fifth Avenue, New York City, September 28-October 9.

Contemporary designs using Philippine fabrics like jusi, sinamay, piña, abaca, hablon, and abel Iloco will be showcased. Noted designer Edgar Allan will exhibit a modern wedding gown in crushed jusi.

Alyssa Buendia – Graduated Bachelor of Arts major in Fashion Design and Merchandising from De La Salle University-College of St. Benilde. She also does beadwork accessories.

Sidney Eculla – A graduate of Philosophy and Communications from St. Paul’s Seminary, he dabbled in costume and theater design and was assistant designer of Edgar Allan in Glorietta, Ayala Center.

Athena Colico-Tandoc – A Political Science graduate of UST, she worked in the family business and took up Dressmaking at Slim’s, then Fashion Design at La Salle College International. She does made-to-order clothes in Makati.

Huse Mara – A Fine Arts Visual Communications major from University of the Philippines Diliman, he studied Fashion Design, with emphasis on haute couture techniques, at the Fashion Institute of the Philippines

Pamela Villapando – A business degree holder from San Sebastian College, she worked in the family business for a while and studied Fashion Design at La Salle College International. She sells casual clothes online under her brand Wheat.
