The idea of art shows sponsored by the Brand Associates and the Glendale Public Library was born in the 1960's when Home Savings and Loan, a key financial supporter, held an all-media show at the bank.  At that time the Manager of the bank also served as President of the Brand Associates.  In 1969 the first Brand Annual Exhibition took place in the newly built gallery annex of the Glendale Public Library. The first three shows were all-media shows, the next three were "Ceramic Conjunction" shows, attracting national interest, the following three shows were print shows.  Over ten years ago, it was decided that the shows would be exhibitions of works on paper.  The presence of jurors and use of their expert judgment became a key component of each show.  Most of the jurors are well-known artists, such as Gerald Brommer, Martin Mondrus, Jim Morphesis, Lita Albuquerque, Kim Abeles and for the Brand 38, Ruth Weisberg.  Since 1971 the annual national juried exhibitions have been organized and sponsored by the Associates of Brand Library.  Noteworthy with respect to current show is the Brand 38 Chairperson, who is Board Member Irena Raulinaitis, a former chemist whose niche in art includes printmaking and sculpture.

The Associates of Brand Library is a non-profit volunteer organization whose purpose is to aid and promote the Brand Library and its Art Center through sponsorship of programs and donations, and to foster art and music education in the community.  Aside from offering visitors a professional gallery experience, the Brand Library Art Galleries showcase works by established and emerging artists from California and, in particular, from Southern California, the Gallery intends to educate, enlighten, challenge, and enrich people's lives through the experience of art.

Admission to the galleries is free and open to the public. Call 818-548-2051 for additional information or visit
