The relief effort, a project spearheaded by the Knights of Columbus of St. Genevieve Parish, has brought the entire community together to send much needed items to the injured and displaced flood victims of the Philippines. Using a section of the parish hall as a makeshift operations center to collect and package relief items, member knights and parishioners alike have worked hand-in-hand to process the steady stream of donations. The mobilization effort, which included announcements for relief donations at all the Sunday Masses, a massive e-mail campaign, phone brigades, targeted solicitation letters and distribution of local fliers, proved to be the right formula to get the donations coming. The relief items will be channeled through the Knights of Columbus Southern California Chapter for shipping directly to the Knights of Columbus in the Philippines.
Fr. Alden J. Sison, the Pastor of St. Genevieve Parish and Charter Chaplain of the Knights of Columbus of St. Genevieve, stated that he was touched by the outpouring of support from the church community. He expressed his appreciation of the selfless efforts of the Knights of Council 14772. The relief effort reached its full momentum with the visibility it garnered during the highly publicized Filipino-American Symphony Orchestra and Choral Groups fundraiser held last Sunday, October 4, at St. Genevieve Church. Operation Relief, is led by Primo M. Sumagaysay, Charter Grand Knight, Noel S. V. Omega, Charter Deputy Grand Knight, Victorino S. Agcaoili, Project Chairperson, and supported by its officers, members and their families; setting a good example of unity in service and charity in the church and the community.
