MONTCLAIR - Immigrant parents from Aurora Province received their own brand of diploma from the Aurora Inter-Organizational Alliance-USA in a ceremony held at the SMR Dance Center in Montclair, California last December 5, in recognition of their efforts and sacrifices that resulted in the successes of their children now making their mark in different fields in their adopted land, the USA.
Dr. Belen G. Guerrero, AIOA-USA’s director spearheaded the event in a fitting tribute to parents, capping a two-year initiative that saw the organization busied itself with fund-raising activities aimed at supporting its computer literacy program in Aurora while at the same time promoting the exotic province as a tourist destination.
Guerrero said parents should be recognized and should not just remain unsung, as they are the pillars that provided support for these children who have now excelled in medical fields, information technology, aeronotics, education, legal profession and other areas of endeavor.
Parents who received their recognition are: Rey and Luis Pilapil, Romeo and Alice Orio, DILG Director Rodolfo Ferraren and Violeta M. Ferraren, Lucy Gonzales-Entac, Gil and Adela Mendoza, Amparo G. Bautista, Ed and Nida A. Querijero, Cely Ruidera-Antonis and Amy Fontanilla.
The tribute was highlighted by the election of a new set of officers who will serve for two years. In an uncontested election, affirmed by viva voce, Dante H Rubio, the AIOA-USA’s past president, was given the nod by party members to lead the organization for another two years. In his acceptance speech, Rubio implored the body to continue supporting the organization in its drive to help the Province of Aurora in anyway it could, especially in the area of education. He said the organization’s Christmas party is being held in the most modest way possible and in abject simplicity in deference to the people hit hard by the economic recession.
Rubio appealed to all the members and friends to affirm its commitment for a stronger and mission-driven organization.
