MANSOUR Jammal, Bellflower High School valedictorian of Class 2000, was one of 164 who received their Doctor of Medicine degree from the David Geffen UCLA School of Medicine at the commencement ceremonies Saturday, June 4, 2010 at UCLA, Los Angeles.
The new MD completed his Post-Baccalaureate Program in Biomedical Sciences at the University of Pennsylvania, and Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry, minor in Public Health at UCLA. He is now a resident physician in Emergency Medicine at the Staten Island University Hospital in New York.
Mansour was born in Los Angeles 26 years ago to a Filipino mother and an Israeli father from Bellflower, CA. His mother works with the Los Angeles County Auditor Controller. His younger sister holds a degree in Biochemistry and Psychology, minor in Music, from the University of California San Diego, San Diego, CA.
In medical school, Jammal received a Letter of Distinction in Pediatrics, Psychiatry and Neurology Clerkships and the Lakewood Medical Center Foundation Scholarship in 2007, 2008 and 2009.
As an undergraduate, in June 2005, he received the UCLA Chancellor’s Service Award. In March of that year, he received the Hall of Fame Award, Circle K International, California-Nevada-Hawaii District Convention. This is awarded to one Circle K member in the entire District who best demonstrates outstanding devotion to the ideals and objectives of Circle K International.
From August 2007 to July 2008, he was Chair of the Filipino Americans In Medicine (FAIM), David Geffen UCLA School of Medicine. As such, he oversaw a mentorship program pairing UCLA medical students with undergraduates with a Filipino background, providing advice and assistance to those interested in pursuing a career in Medicine.
Dr. Jammal is a member of the following professional societies: Society of Academic Emergency Medicine (SAEM), Emergency Medicine Residents’ Association (EMRA) and Society of General Internal Medicine (SGIM).
He is a classically trained pianist, ever since age four. He has been featured in the Los Angeles Times, Long Beach Press-Telegram, and Bellflower Today. His hobbies include hip-hop dance, basketball, long-distance running and international travel.
