Klas-tv announces ‘8 On Your Side’ Resource Fair

Broadcaster partners with local agencies to assist thousands of Nevadans struggling to make ends meet in the present economy

KLAS-TV and the Community Pride partners, in collaboration with United Way of Southern Nevada, will hold an 8 On Your Side Resource Fair to help connect Nevadans with local resources that can provide assistance during this time of need.

"With so many families struggling at this time with housing, food needs and unemployment, people don’t know where to turn," said Emily Neilson, general manager of KLAS-TV.  "Many of these families have never been in this situation before and aren’t aware of the many services that are available in Southern Nevada.  Having these various agencies under one roof will help give the assistance that they need."

Informational services that will be made available include government benefits, healthcare, food, financial services, workforce development and housing, utility and rental assistance.  Agencies that will take part include:

• Foundation for an Independent Tomorrow (FIT)

• United Labor Agency of Nevada (ULAN)

• Consumer Credit Counseling Service

• Catholic Charities of Southern  Nevada

• Nevada 2-1-1

• HELP of Southern Nevada

• Nevada Job Connect

• Nevada State Welfare Division

• Clark County Social Service

• College of Southern   Nevada

• Southern Nevada Health District

• Nevada Health Centers

• Legal Aid Center  of Southern Nevada

• Nevada Covering Kids & Families

The 8 On Your Side Resource Fair will be held Friday, November 21 from noon until 6 pm.  It will take place at the Heinrich YMCA at 4141 Meadows Lane, Las Vegas, NV 89107.  The event is open to the public and free of charge.  

"United Way and KLAS-TV have a long-standing history of working together to improve lives in Southern Nevada," said Dan Goulet, president and CEO of United Way of Southern Nevada.  "We are pleased that so many of our local community partners will be participating in this critical community event."

United Way of Southern Nevada joins forces with the Community Pride Partners that include NV Energy, Findlay Automotive Group, The Venetian Foundation and The Valley Health System.
