( Part 3 )

YOU will remember that last week we found out a lot of information about Mary’s personal energy through her letter and by looking at her birth chart. Now it’s time to start the analysis of her home, which begins with the exterior surroundings. Oftentimes when people think of feng shui, they think exclusively of the interior of the building, and perhaps their front and back yards. Because energy is flowing in and out and around your home from everywhere – from your neighbor’s yard, a nearby school, or a neighboring business – the exterior needs to be taken into consideration.

First of all, I double check the floor plan Mary provided me with because the proportions have to be fairly accurate. I also ask her to double check her compass reading because a strong presence of metal can throw a compass reading off. Taking a reading at both the front and back of the building is usually enough for accuracy.

With the floor plan and compass readings verified, it is confirmed that Mary’s building sits on a northeast/southwest axis and her door is northwest. This apartment is compatible to her so far. However, there are 60 factors involved, so this compatibility is not necessarily enough.

Mary benefits from being close to the earth, either near mountains and hills, or living on the ground level. Metal also promotes Mary. Mary does live in a metropolitan area, which fortunately represents the metal element and although there is not much earth around her, living on the second level she does not live too far away from the earth’s energy.

Directly in front of Mary’s apartment is a small commercial building. From the balcony at the front of her unit, Mary looks out upon its rooftop and smokestacks. A tall high-rise building is in front of the door of her complex. This is all in the southwest, which for Mary represents the energy of relationships and marriage. Because the relationship energy is obstructed by these buildings from flowing into her building, she will likely experience temper, anger, and conflict in her relationships.

On the left side of her complex (energy of the male and generation of income) there is a low building. On the right side (energy of the female and saving income) there are taller buildings. Because the left side is lower than the right outside of her unit, the energy is unbalanced. The male energy is weaker, resulting in unstable relationships and unstable finances. The female energy is dominant, adding to the instability of her relationships. Though the dominant female energy means she is able to save money, if no money is coming in, then there is nothing to save.
