Healing Meditation

THERE is no doubt that meditation improves health. The benefits of relaxation and releasing stress stimulate good health, but you can go further by targeting specific ailments in your body and reducing them with meditative breathing and visualization.

Meditation can be very successful in relieving minor ailments such as sinusitis, cramps, and headache, and with great discipline and practice, it can also relieve and prevent severe ailments, such as arthritis, early stage cancer, and chronic disease. Be sure to get training in meditation from an experienced master, and integrate it with the advice of medical doctors, herbalists, and acupuncturists that you have chosen to follow on your road to recovery. In this article I will introduce a basic outline for using meditation and visualization to relieve minor ailments.

First, target the area in your body where coldness, pain, or tension is originating. The more specific you can be about the location of the negative energy, the better you can treat it. Once you’ve targeted the problem area, begin by inhaling a deep breath. When you do this correctly, your abdomen should expand, not your chest. Visualize golden light energy coming in through your nose, filling your chakras and every area of your body. With your mind’s eye, guide the golden light into the problem area and hold the light energy there until you feel it transforming the cold, dark energy into golden light. You should feel warmth in your body as you do this. It may take several sessions to achieve this depending on your energy level.

Second, guide the dark energy out of your body with visualization. As you exhale, contract your abdomen and expel the negative energy out. Repeat this sequence until you feel your whole body is filled with all golden light energy.

Third, as you are breathing and visualizing, chant an appropriate mantra for health. Mantras are sounds that when put together, create frequencies that reach other dimensions. Most mantras start with om - the sound of the universe’s creation. It is best to chant out loud if you can do the breathing at the same time. Try to gather enough breath to create a deep and resonating om. If this is hard for you, you can chant in your mind.

Fourth, add a mudra. Mudras are hand positions that serve as antennae that channel cosmic energy to you. If you have a headache, hold your hands in the appropriate mudra to your head. As you inhale, imagine the golden light energy coming straight to your head. Hold the breath and visualize the light permeating your head area. As you exhale, visualize the dark energy in your head exiting your mouth and moving away from your body.

Meditation works because you are made of energy. Your physical body houses this energy called chi, or life force, which is your soul. Both your body and your soul are reflections of each other. One can affect the other. Your physical health affects your mental state and your mood affects your soul. Likewise, your soul can affect your physical health. We all have the ability to heal ourselves.

If you have the karma to find a true master to learn from, one of the most important lessons you can learn is how to use mantras that allow you to embody the frequency of good health. When you chant a health mantra, it allows your soul, the frequency of your life force to resonate with the divine or higher frequency (often referred to as a "god" of health) so that you can embody and become this energy. When you are able to do this, you transform dark energy within and heal your physical body.

Get guidance in effective meditation, but also be aware of your body and what it responds to. Perhaps standing, walking or exercising while meditating suits you better than sitting. By being aware of what is taking place inside your body, instead of masking symptoms with quick fixes that cover up the real source of the ailment, you can live a progressive life.
