I AM all about the business of real estate, of course! But you have to have a balanced life, to be happy with what you’re doing.
I thought of doing this article because I spoke to a caller, who said something that stuck to my mind and encouraged me to write about something that might help you in your day-to-day living here in the US.
What drives me to do this? I just advised an elderly couple go through the rigorous process of Loan Modification in order to keep their home. It’s a lot harder for an elderly couple to move , not only physically, but emotionally as well. I just sent them a full packet of documents I gathered from the county for them to proceed with the process. The elderly lady told me I was so nice and she kept thanking me.
As you all know I am a mortgage broker by trade for over 24 years, and have written article to advise, inform, educate and help since 1993. I do this to help people understand what to look for when they are soliciting for mortgage business and for Realtors and Loan Modification companies.
I believe mature men and women should always have a mentor, or a direction in life. Before you know it, you are already too old to do anything you like. I will share with you some insights of my recent seminar, pertaining to our daily lives. Motivational seminars are key for me to be able to look at myself everyday and say I am ready to go to work, ready to battle my three young kids and wife ( just kidding). Ready to battle the day- to-day stress that we all go through here in the US.
Don’t think that people from other places don’t have their own share of problems. As we get older and face more responsibilities; we also have to learn how to deal with stress. Always look at the green grass around us before looking somewhere else, because every grass will have dry spots, regardless of how much watering or fertilizer is being sprayed.
Things I learned from this recent online seminar from Mike Ferry, # 1 motivational speaker for realtors: He advises that should never stop and always be on the go. Always be ready to re-arrange our lives around stumbling blocks or road blocks. For example, you’ve been stuck in traffic for three hours. You have the option to take a different, longer route which will take about an hour. Are you just going to sit there and wait?
We have to maximize our time by BEING AWARE OF IT. We have to stop at the end of a long hard day and realize what we did for that day, spend 10 minutes just thinking and analyzing them.
That is why we have to be aware of what we are doing. This translates to everything in life, not just in real estate. We have to believe in the LAW OF REALTY. We cannot be creative in life if we can’t see things as they are, instead of seeing them as we want them to be.
Last weekend, The LA Times had an article about college degrees and the job market. It said that a college degree might not be worth it, with all the student loans, if college graduates are unable to
utilize their degrees for good-paying jobs. I am completely against that and I still think graduating from college has a ton of benefits. It doesn’t mean that you should have a degree in medicine or engineering, it only means that having any degree will be beneficial for you in the future, especially in your mid-career.
Once you come in to the job market, once you have gained your experience in your field of education, your degree will come to play in this world of status quo. Another benefit is that you will make friends with same goals and aspirations, you will know more and instantly want more.
Parents, we work hard to educate our kids for a future, trust me, it will pay off. I attended a graduation recently in Anaheim in a private girls school. Just seeing the efforts that parents put in and the camaraderie of the kids graduating and how motivated they were was enough.
To get started, all we need is a simple task to free ourselves of stress. Start setting goals -- simple daily goals like waking up at a certain time or calling someone to say hi. We are all equipped with cell phones that have a calendar: use them.
Use a page in your diary and start setting daily goals and monthly goals -- what you want to achieve or buy in the next six months, who you need to contact and what you need to do to get reach your goal.
Review your goals and change them if they are far too high for you to reach -- making adjustments is not a problem. In fact, they tell you that already you know what you need to reach your goals. Once you know how to set your schedule or goals, your life will become slightly easier and you will find free time for yourself.
The caller told me that he reads my article because I help him go through hard times. I actually did not know I was capable of doing that. Thanks.
