(Part 3 of 5)

SIX months prior to each lunar new year, my father, Grandmaster Chi Jen Liu, and I analyze the Flying Nine Star Charts along with the Yi-Jing, Five Elements, and Chinese Almanac and interpret forecasts of what is in store for the upcoming year.

When interpreted correctly, these powerful tools allow us to understand the cause and effect energies that occur during certain periods of time within the nine directions of the world, helping us to forecast events.

Due to the many associations of the Nine Stars and Five Elements, we are not able to provide all possible interpretations in this article series, however, we are providing the key interpretations for 2012.

East 9, 3, 4 - Economic Power Shifts

China, Virginia, South Carolina

Wood Stars 4 and 3 coming together with fire Star 9 in the east is auspicious. Related to licensing, scholarship, and promotion, these stars show that intelligent researchers and technological developments from eastern regions fuel the economy and bring sustainability. China will reveal new marketing techniques and innovations in unprecedented numbers. However, as Stars 4 and 3 are out of cycle, there may be paperwork problems, copyright or legal issues, and questionable practices. Regardless, new jobs are created and money is made. There is an increase of mistresses and marriages in China due to international business relations.

Outstanding female leaders make notable contributions in eastern regions. During this 20-year Period 8, base Star 6 - a patriarchal energy - shows that governing bodies are still dominated by conservative officials whose priorities are power and money. Businessmen, lawyers, and government officials continue to possess wealth. Marketing businesses that require their services do well.

Annual Star 4 and 20-year Period 8’s Star 6 create an energy of cultural exchange and partnership between the east and the west. This starts a trend of intercultural marriages – particularly between Chinese women and Caucasian or American men. Because wood Star 4 and metal Star 6 are conflicting energies, these relationships tend to be for short-term exchange of sexual and financial support. Similar short-term benefits occur in trade relations between east and west governments. For example, the US uses China’s resources and slave labor to produce low cost items that sell at high profit margins. US companies cannot compete and their economy suffers. Meanwhile, China acquires great wealth, but at the expense of their environment and people.

Star 4 brings high winds, storms, and hurricanes to the US east coast and to eastern countries. Fire Star 9 indicates fire caused or worsened by high winds and rising temperatures in the east.

Economic sectors related to the fire element grow. Public relations, expos, technology, the Internet, art, beauty, and restaurant businesses tend to do well. Feminine Star 4 indicates that female marketers, designers, artists, and trendsetters take the lead and stimulate the economy.

Southeast 1, 2, 5 - Loss of Resources

Australia, Philippines, Malaysia, New Zealand, Florida

Violating Star 5 flies to the southeast. Southeast regions such as Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, Australia, and Florida likely encounter natural disaster, political corruption, terrorist activity, and pollution. Southeast Asian countries are likely to acquire military weapons and possibly engage in war tactics.

Water Star 1 and earth Star 2 bring floods, landslides, tsunamis, and extreme climate. Because earth energy is defeated by water, water disaster comes to forests and agriculture. Crop damage causes shortages, increasing the price of food, grains, and textiles. Sanctuaries and temples in forest and rural areas will likely suffer damage.

Star 5 combined with the southeast’s wood energy creates obstacles related to the wood element, such as financial issues, audits, corruption, embezzlement, bankrupt corporations, political red tape, and a volatile stock market. Because the southeast direction energies relate to reporting, writing, documentation, publishing, education, and scholarship, fraud may occur in areas related to academic diplomas, licensing, or media exposé. Birds are associated to the southeast wood element. Star 5 may bring massive death of fowl or a bird virus epidemic.

Over the 20-year Period 8, violating Star 5 and daring feminine Star 7 show that prostitution and sexual disease spread in Southeast Asia. Vices related to the lungs, such as smoking and inhaled drugs, create pollution and side effects. Piracy continues to be a serious problem.
