(Part 5 of 5)
SIX months prior to each lunar new year, my father, Grandmaster Chi Jen Liu, and I analyze the Flying Nine Star Charts along with the Yi-Jing, Five Elements, and Chinese Almanac, and interpret forecasts of what is in store for the upcoming year.
These powerful tools have been passed down to us for generations. When interpreted correctly, they allow us to understand the cause and effect energies that occur during certain periods of time within the nine directions (eight cardinal directions plus the center) of the world, and help us to forecast events.
Due to the many associations of the Nine Stars and Five Elements, we are not able to provide all possible interpretations in this article series, however, we are providing the key interpretations for 2012.
West 4, 8, 8 - Sweet Relief
United States, France, California
The stable and harmonious energies of earth Star 8 arrive to promote the west metal energies, which bring economic relief. Associated with children and noble status, this indicates that the younger generation enjoys new job opportunities. More and more famous philanthropists contribute their time and energy to help non-profit organizations raise funds. Because Star 8 is also associated with northeast energies, ethnic groups will likely play a big role in bringing wealth into the United States economy. They accomplish this by investing in real estate, starting up businesses, and putting money back into the banks. These groups are the consumers the United States needs to stimulate its economy.
Wood Star 4 and earth Star 8 indicate that the seeds of change spreading over the earth by the wind will take time to root and grow. This reflects the energy behind the United States’ financial recovery. It will take some time before new businesses establish themselves, but once they do they will thrive. Star 4 brings female scholars, businesses, and political leaders to the forefront. Businesses that specialize in tutoring, licensing, and vocational skills do well. However, because Star 4 is out of cycle, there may be issues when it comes to financial paperwork or counting election ballots.
Masculine earth Star 8 is the perfect match to the feminine metal energies of the west. This attraction creates a ripple effect of mutual benefits between countries and communities in the west and northeast. Cultural exchange will be seen on both sides of the world. Eastern countries aim to be like the west and the west is learning new methods from the east. An increase in interracial marriages as well as merges between west and eastern companies will be seen. This gives birth to new jobs that stimulate global economic recovery. Star 8 coming to the west shows that when western countries such as the United States work with northeast regions such as China, it is profitable and helps overcome the economic slump. The value of gold rises as the dollar is still weak.
Wood Star 4 is associated with wind and storms. Combined with earth Star 8, this likely brings hurricanes and dust storms to the west.
Over the 20-year Period 8, Stars 1 and 8 form the shia gua according to the Yi-Jing. This gua indicates that western countries such as the United States lose their foothold as world leaders, while Asian countries like China broadcast their climb to the top. However, staying ahead is a taxing endeavor that comes with a price. In their ascent to become global leaders, Asian countries need to avoid making the same mistakes the United States has made in the past. Rather than being the “top dog,” eastern countries like China can enjoy long-term success with fairness, compromise, and humility in collaboration.
Northwest 3, 9, 7 - Temper, Temper, Temper
Canada, Alaska, Iceland, Washington, Oregon
Metal Star 7 and the metal energies of the northwest clash like two swords. Star 7 is an aggressive female energy and the energy of the northwest relates to patriarchal male leaders. This combination indicates that shrewd, bold female contenders will compete with males in the political arena. These females will do whatever it takes to achieve power and come out on top, which includes scandalizing each other. These intense energies will be self-defeating because energy and resources will be spent in dueling with each other rather than pointing swords in the same direction to fight together for a better cause.
Political battles stir up more civilian revolt in 2012. Riots and street fights with police authorities may break out. Stars 7 and 9 indicate arson, wild fires, nuclear radiation, dry wells, transportation crashes, and bomb threats in the northwest. Hatred and heated tempers set off a ripple effect of fiery disasters that burn mountainsides, forests, and buildings. Like the roar of a scolding mother who must teach her children to stay away from danger and stop fighting with each other, volcanoes in the northwest will explode while thunder and lightning ignite the skies. Unusual astronomical activity and UFO sightings are seen in the northwest.
Wood Star 3 and fire Star 9 indicate technological advancements in the northwest regions. Businesses related to the Internet, communications, media, entertainment, and technology grow and do well.
Over the 20-year Period 8, fire Star 9 indicates that rising temperatures continue in northwest regions. High temperatures and unusual climate patterns adversely affect the life cycles of plants, animals, and insects, as well as the human immune system.
