MEDITATION is a personal experience. Creating a meditation space where you feel comfortable and free is a key factor to success. If you are distracted or self-conscious, your conscious mind will continue to dominate your thought and you will be unable to tap into the well of peace that resides in the subconscious.

There are many types, or schools of meditation. We choose to focus on Feng Shui Meditation (FSM) because it implies that the very laws of nature that are applied in feng shui of the environment are applied to balancing your personal energy - your mind/body/spirit connection.

In creating a space to practice Feng Shui Meditation, it is important to locate it in a compatible orientation. Compatibility is based on your gua - or birth number - derived from your birth month, day, and year. A compatible orientation is receptive to your internal antennae, making it easier to achieve an effective state of meditation and receive messages from different dimensions.

Based on your birth date, you belong to either the Eastern Direction Pattern (EDP) or Western Direction Pattern (WDP). If you are EDP, meditate in the north, south, east, or southeast rooms and/or facing these directions for maximum meditative benefits. If you are WDP, meditate in the northeast, southwest, west, and northwest rooms and/or facing these directions.

To find out in which direction the different rooms of your home are located, take a floor plan of your house and divide the width and the length into thirds. You now have a grid of nine sectors on your floor plan. With a compass or map, you can label the appropriate direction for each sector. Label the square in the very middle of your home the "center."

Remember that each year, certain directions are stronger or weaker depending on the annual Nine Star Chart. Knowing what orientations are strongest for you in a given year and adjusting your meditation area accordingly will enhance your meditation. For instance, this year in 2009, if you are EDP, the east and north directions are unstable and should actually be avoided. It is better to meditate in the southeast or south rooms. However, do not face a compatible direction if it puts you in alignment with negative aspects of your home environment such as facing a fireplace or bathroom door. Likewise, if in a given year one of your compatible orientations is stronger for health, and you are meditating for good health, then face that direction.
